With college football season winding down, CBS Sports is actually teaming up with sister network Showtime for quite a day & night of actual boxing for the first time on broadcast TV in 15 years.

CBS, Showtime & Golden Boy Promotions are actually presenting a live afternoon & evening of fights that'll take place from the Los Angeles Sports Arena Saturday, December 15th. As many as 7 fights will be broadcast on the two networks, first on CBS & then on Showtime.

The "Showtime Boxing on CBS" event will feature 2012 U.S. Olympian Joseph "Jo-Jo" Cruz, Jr. in the undercard vs. an opponent to be named. The main event that'll air LIVE @ 3:30P (CT) December 15th on CBS will be an IBF Bantamweight Championship fight with Champion Leo Santa Cruz (22-0-1 with 13 KO's) defending his title vs. Alberto "Metro" Guevara (16-0 with 6 KO's). But wait...there's more.

The big day & night of boxing continues later that night on Showtime and Showtime Extreme. Although the other fights on the card have not been announced, the main event later that night is a 12 Round Junior Welterweight bout between Amir "King" Khan (26-3, 18 KO's) & Carlos Molina (17-0-1, 17 KO's). Coverage on Showtime Extreme will start @ 7:30P & on Showtime itself @ 9:30P December 15th.

For CBS, this will be their first boxing event since broadcasting Bernard Hopkins' knockout win over Glen Johnson on January 20, 1997. The last such boxing that aired on broadcast TV was the live finale of the Mark Burnett-produced reality series "The Contender" on NBC in 2005.

As for more information regarding the fighters that'll take part in the December 15th event that'll air on CBS & Showtime, that info can be found here:

Boxing is awful, SHARK. Also, heading to Subway in a bit. What advice could you give me?

I know it's awful, but it's been awhile since boxing had the time of day on CBS or any broadcast network. I'm old enough to remember when Tim Ryan & Gil Clancy called boxing on CBS, Marv Albert & Dr. Ferdie Pycheco on NBC, as well as the late Howard Cosell, the very alive Dan Dierdorf & Alex Wallau called boxing when football & basketball weren't exactly on. Yeah, you've got to go back some 20 years or so since the networks aired actual boxing.

As for Subway, you can get a Steak Melt like in the commercial, the Black Forest Ham for $5, or a Chicken Bacon Ranch for a little extra...Other than that, you're on your own.

I still prefer boxing to UFC, not that I watch any of them much.
