Vince had signed and pushed Sting instead of the Ultimate Warrior?

He would have become almost as big of a star as Hogan. Hogan would have been gone by 1991.

That's pretty much what I think. I know Vince couldn't have known before hand what a reprehensible scumbag Helwig was, but I think about how different the entire industry would've been.

I defer to all things wrestling to you guys here because I am the very definition of a casual observer, but the Sting love has always been inexplicable to me. Great technical wrestler? Ok sure, but he has just always left me completely cold. Never liked his promo's. Didn't like his look prior to the crow makeup and then he stayed with that gimmick for an enternity even though it is based on a dated movie that was shitty to begin with. Different strokes for different folks and for certain I realize I am not going to convert anyone around here to see the boring lameness of the Stinger. But there ain't no force in the universe more powereful than Hulkamania brother....

Sting wouldn't have been as good.

Being able to feud with Flair early on was instrumental to his development.

That's a good point. No doubt working with Flair sharpened him up into the wrestler he became. But he could've worked with Bret in the fed.

WCW never would have been a threat, product would have been stale 5 years earlier

Also,Phil take back what you said about The Crow. Great movie,Tells a wicked revenge story as well as being a decent love story.
Most realistic fight scenes since Twilight Zone.

Sure. But Bret wasn't at a main event level at that time. So if we follow the Warrior path, Sting would've worked with Hogan. And he wouldn't have learned that it was possible to get someone else over while still looking strong.

So he basically would've been Lex Luger.

Phil, I'm not as big of a Sting guy as some people here. But I was 12 in 1990, and he was insanely over. That's with the WCW nonsense at the time, and he was injured. Vince positioning him would have been crazy. Look what happened to him after he won the title in 1990. Whoops, we don't have any opponents. Let's cut Flair's hair and put him in a mask. I don't think he would have been Hogan over in the 80's, but it would have been close.

The thing is, Sting was WCW. HE was the one who never left. HE was the one who stuck to it until the end. A HUGE part of why WCW failed during it's "invasion" wasn't just Vince trying to bury it, but that they didn't have their "heart & soul", so to say.

Warrior would of killed Flair

Wonder why wwe didn't sign them as a tag team back then to combat wcw having LOD, Blade Runners could of given Vince his version

This, but they weren't nearly as good as the Road Warriors.

I was never a Sting guy. He had some great matches with Flair, but my favorite Sting moment of all time involves the Roadies turning on him when Dusty wasn't there.

Second favorite involved him not speaking during the whole NWO thing.

Sting may have been bigger in wrestling, but I don't think he had the personality to transcend wrestling (TV, movies, etc). So IMO, don't think he would have gotten bigger than HH.

I don't think he could have been bigger. But he could have been John Cena with face paint. Wait, maybe he was better off.

Vince had a run of luck with great wrestling personalities: Hogan,Savage,Undertaker,Austin,The Rock,HBK,HHH.

Judging from my recent lack of interest, the well started to dry up after Austin left.

Think of it this way. Look at what Vince was able to do with Warrior. He was atrocious in the ring a lot of times. He could not give a promo that was understandable to save his life. Yet he is a legend from that time period. Sting was better at every aspect of the business when compared to Warrior. Sting could have been everything Warrior was and way more and done it with the respect of the guys in the lockerroom and had the staying power to do it for many years. I don't think he would have gotten bigger than Hogan, but it would have been a major thing. And I am completely confident that Vince knows this and would admit it today if you could get him to be honest about the whole situation.

I agree. Once again,I will have to try and watch my favorite wrestling video this weekend. The Ultimate Warrior DVD where he gets ripped left and right. I love the brutal honesty by a bunch of guys payed to be fake.

That all but sums up the way I feel it would've went down. That's why I put it out there. I've had discussions with wrestling buddies about this. Some agreed with me, some didn't. I just wanted to check the pulse of the guys here on the subject.

Sting was insanely over while being run and booked by some of the most colossal clusterfucks in the history of the business. (Bill Busch's experience was he ran a Pizza Hut. ) With Vince and the WWE machine behind Sting, the sky was the limit.

I think the Stinger would have bombed in wwf at that time. zero promo ability. you can rip warrior's promos but at least they were intense. Sting trips over his own words most of the time. Warrior was much more jacked than Sting too. Sting would have been too tiny back then. Almost a cruiserweight in wwf in 88-90. Warrior could slam a guy like Andre.
