Not much different than a baseball player going to professional baseball after high school. The biggest difference is the MLB scholarship program is for 4 year schools. Besides that the player takes the same risks if injured or washes out.

Yes at the lower levels. The upper levels they can make 40-50k.

It is different in that a team is invested in you as a baseball minor league player. This NFL league is more like an extended version of various post season talent showcases like the East West Shrine Game or whatever they call them these days.
