I really doubt there wont be games....but if there isn't how will they determine next year's draft order?

Probably average record over a couple of seasons. Or a true lottery which would be fun.

Cant do a true lottery. Could you imagine if Kansas City got 1.1 and held basically a Trevor Lawrence auction? Could break the sport.

I’d be shocked if there wasn’t a season also but the Jordan Love pick gets much more defensible.

Yeah it does make you wonder if some teams were drafting as if there will be no season. If that is the case the GB draft looks a little better.

The best idea I could come up with would something like the Rule V or NFL supplemental draft. There would be a first round, and if you decided to leap on a player in that round then it would cost you that pick in the 2022 draft. Then the second round would be the same. No trading picks.

If there's no NFL season there surely wasn't a college season, so I'd imagine they'd preserve eligibility for guys. Basically make the NFL draft only for guys who declare, which means you'd only see probably fifty or so players who decide to make the jump.

On the other hand imagine the very mega comedy of the Jets getting it, talking themselves into Darnold still, and trading it for like the 1.6 and a 2nd and future 1st. And Lawrence goes on to what we think he will be for like the Jaguars or Colts or something. Would be great.

Another good question is if there is no college football season and there is an NFL season then what will the draft look like?

It is really hard due to salary cap, non guaranteed contracts and short careers to truly ruin yourself in the NFL.

A weighted lottery with a snake style draft is what the NHL did in 05.

It will take two year to really fuck things up. NFL teams already have tape and have scouted a lot of the players eligible next year. Just like most colleges have already offered most kids before this year is played.

I’m talking myself into this theory.

It may be me clinging to the last and the nfl I grew up watching but I really do like the Dillon pick either way though.

Yeah, but that will really be a crap shoot. The draft is a crap shoot as it is, but if they are basing everything off 2 yr old film then it is really going to be a clusterfuck

Historically weak. Probably the weakest class ever, in some way this year's second round could be stronger and deeper than a 2021 first round with extended eligibility and guys who dont want to declare.

And that got me thinking...if that's even a possiblity and this is arguably the deepest draft in twenty years...why not trade firsts and seconds from 2021 to get better players now?

Well I looked and it literally did not happen. The Saints gave up a 2021 third and that's it. Not one future draft pick has changed hands except the ones that were already dealt before the coronavirus shut everything down.

I very strongly suspect there was a league mandate to not trade picks from next year. That the possibility RFDC raised is top of mind for the NFL and they aren't going to tolerate teams trying to take advantage of it. I cannot remember a draft with as few trades as this one, I think we have stumbled on why.

The Patriots also traded away a 2021 sixth. So thats it, a 2021 third and sixth were the only two future picks given up. I can look back and see if there's any draft in the modern era where there has been that little movement.

But if there were even a couple trades made then there wasn't a mandate to not trade any. It could just be the communication issues that were raised pre draft.

Maybe there weren't letting them trade firsts and seconds, I dont know. Without looking into draft history it sure feels remarkable to not see a first or second round pick from the next year be moved.

And nobody really has gone and traded for Trent Williams or Yannick yet? I dont know, this all feels a little fishy.

You could ban trading of picks/players drafted.

They will play the games for sure. It may be in different stadiums or with no fans, but the games will be played.

They were talking about teams trading for picks in next years draft so they could use them in the supplemental. They suspect there will be a lot more players in the upcoming supplemental draft.

He wants new paper. Turned down a deal with Minnesota yesterday because they wouldn't give him a new deal. He hasn't played a full season since 2014 I think.
