agreed. the player moments are awesome, like seeing their emotion. the coaches, who gives a fuck. they are too smart to say anything they shouldnt

I like the kick-off rule. At least there is a chance for a run back.

I heard a lot of discussion about the kickoffs before the weekend. There was nothing odd or strange about it. I liked it a lot and is already an upgrade to the NFL "solution".

Some really crappy football, but it was better than I expected. If they truly are trying to set themselves as an NFL development league, I think they could be successful.

Someone really must have restrained Vince McMahon....It didn't have the WWE vibe to it this time around. I could do without mic's on the coaches or players. Does nothing for me.

Kickoff, Replay, Overtime.....this is where the NFL needs to take note.

I like the Mic'd up aspect of things sometimes. I don't need to hear every play. But before a big 3rd down or something, its pretty cool to hear whats going on. I just wonder if that tape and audio is going to affect things down the road with regards to the other teams knowing whats coming.

It was better than the AAF. Agree that if the XFL works with rather than against the NFL, it could be a minor league of sorts with both sides getting some benefits. It certainly is not appointment TV, but if there is nothing else on and I'm flipping channels, I could see me watching a bit of the action from time to time.

And   @Trestman the offensive JEANUIS putting up 3 whole points in week one. I cannot believe he was an NFL head coach...of my team no less :( . That has to go down as perhaps the worst coaching hire in NFL history.

The little I saw was pretty bad. Like really rusty second half pre season stuff.

The NY Tampa game was terrible. I didn't see any of the second game on Sunday.

The first halves of both Saturday games were pretty vanilla, but by the second half the teams seemed to get into a grove the and the play was a lot better. Nothing like the NFL, but professional enough to watch here and there.

I could see (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky dominating here. Occasionally

After day 1 I agree.

But remember we still have yet to see Marc Trestman's Tampa team.

I can facilitate a tailgate at the Roughnecks home games. Food, beverages, hookers, etc. Just let me know what you guys need.

At the Houston game, essentially the entire lower bowl of the UH Cougars stadium was filled, a crowd of 17k is what the paper said. The upper deck was essentially unsold I believe, as in, they didn't even sell tickets there. The crowd actually seemed into the game from what I could tell (we left at halftime), and not in a joking sort of way. That is, the crowd appeared entertained by the product on the field as a live sporting event.

I will say that the pace of game was nice as an in person entertainment event. The one Texans home game I went to, and the one Bears home game I went to in 2019 seemed to drag on. Replay stuff, TV timeouts, QBs staring at the sidelines for 30 seconds between plays. So the pace of the game was nice.

I will say that if the XFL tries to position itself as a family alternative to the NFL for kids who like football, they might gain some traction. If I took the two post kids to an NFL game and sat in seats that were even remotely considered "close" or "good", I'd be looking at $450+ just to get in the door. We sat in the 20th row or so, right on the endline and our total cost was like $110. The kids loved it. It would not surprise me if I took them to another game this year.

I told my kids that football was over after the super bowl, completely forgetting about the XFL. So I didn't tell them we were going to a football game on Saturday. They were really excited/surprised when they were at a game. I told them XFL stands for "Xtra" Football League.

For sure. Especially if they expand to more cities that do not have an NFL team. The slogan on the field and sidewalls was, "XFL; For The Love Of The Game." If they stick to that and don't compete against the NFL, I agree that there is a market for them to succeed.

One thought I did have is they probably need some marketable stars, or at least guys who people know their name. I mean essentially all of your defensive guys can be nobodies, same with your OL dudes. I'm not sure about the pay scale, but it might makes sense to cough up some bread for QBs and WRs who people know. Obviously you aren't getting Drew Brees in the XFL, but if you can pay some backup NFL type guys enough dough, maybe you get some recognizable names. Probably not an option at this point though.

NFL won't continue to passively support the XFL if the XFL starts pinching NFL role-players. And the XFL needs that support.

NFL paychecks are going to be way better than XFL paychecks. There MIGHT be one or two guys in the entire league that can make more in the XFL than they can in the NFL.

That said, if an NFL role player decides to be an every down player and start in the XFL, "For The Love Of The Game," why should anybody fault him?

Edit for reference;
The league minimum salary in the NFL is $495,000
The average weekly salary for XFL players (other than the starting QB) is about $2000

2k per game is base pay average. They can triple that or more with performance and wins. But still probably half what the cheapest NFL guy makes.

But if ratings go up then who knows. The NFL wouldn't be able to pay so much if nobody watched it.

The NY game was so bad, I didn't bother trying to find the second game and aside from Houston & DC, I don't think I'll be spending a minute on this until they look less like really bad NFL preseason games.

I hope to see some kind of agreement between the XFL and NFL regarding roster makeup. Every NFL team can sign something like 20 guys to a futures contract once the season ends. These are usually PS players and CFL guys. Let the NFL teams loan the players they have signed to futures contracts to the XFL. Now people have the slightest shred of vested interest in these players, the XFL won't have to worry about running out of money to pay these guys and the NFL teams get to further develop some long shot players in real games. They could set it up similar to the Arizona Fall League in baseball where players from 4 -6 teams will make up each XFL team.

I feel like liability issues would hold this theory up, but I support it.

Correct.
Their slogan is "Kinda looks like the game you love, right?"
We can get creative here. Let's find them a good slogan.
"I believe in NFL light cause I believe in me!"
"Same football taste, only 1 calorie"
"Where arena league bankruptcy players come to get work instead of working at Starbucks"

Six of one, half dozen of the other. The overall meaning is the same as what I listed.

REDSKINS!!!!!

Also, I'm a big fan of start up leagues, going all the way back to the USFL. The USFL had talent right off the bat though. Nothing really stands out so far in the talent department in the XFL. Maybe a couple of the QBs like Jones and the guy in Houston.

Vince already pledged $350 mil to the league no matter what happens... Says that's enough for at least 3 years.

And that motherfucker will lose all his money before letting the league fold again.

If his network partners bail, he'll run the damn league on the WWE Network before admitting defeat.
