It's pretty much official now that there isn't a wanking motion emoticon big enough for the idea that NFL defenses are somehow too fast for option football to work.

So J Bills was right after all?

If he was still alive he'd be out in force tonight.

That's the new excuse. The old excuse was that defensive ends are too fast.

This is only year two of anyone trying, so too early to say. There will have to be new variations, but that's true of everything. The basic pistol read option is as sound a play as an iso from the I formation iso -- maybe more sound, in fact, because you're not handicapping yourself a player.

San Francisco had 323 yards rushing tonight! 323! The revolution is coming.

Is death an option?

You gonna go out like Hunter S. with football season being over. :(

One of my greatest regrets ... not sitting next to Hunter when he 'cleaned' his gun one last time.

I keep hearing all this talk how it is a passing league... The only thing stopping the Niners run game was the end zone.

It's a passing league insofar as the rules have made it easier and easier to pass. But teams are just starting to tap into the potential of what can be done on the ground. Shortest distance between two points is a straight line.

As innovative as Harbaugh & Roman are with their Offense, the Niners play OL & DL better than any NFL team perhaps in the last 10 years. Sure the Texans are very good on both sides of the ball, but they arent the Niners. Watching the Niners OL is a thing of beauty, & their DL is dominating.
Back to Harbaugh, most NFL head coaches wouldn't have the balls to bench a veteran QB on the best team in the league & replace him with a 2nd year QB who really is a rookie. Kaeps performance today was one of the all time great QB performances in the NFL playoffs. He was unreal. Who thought that he could & would outplay A-Rod? By the way, Rodgers is starting to resemble Peyton in the playoffs. 2 years in a row, 1 & done. I hope that trend continues. Back to Kaepernik, there isn't a weak part to his game. Sure, Harbaugh is known as an offense & QB guru, but this is ridiculous. As I watched this game & Kaeps performance, I couldn't help from wondering why the Bears Cow tow to Jay Cutler & continue to only make moves that Jay approves. Giving him an extension & continuing to try to build the organization around him is foolish. Hire McCoy & draft 2 or 3 QB's.

Yea...short term memory loss! 2 & done this year...& sure, A-Rod has a long way to go to equal Peytons 9-10 record in the playoffs, but there is a lot of angst in Packerville given their poor performance in the playoffs the last 2 years. I gotta believe that Capers will be on the hot seat since the D has been so brutal. My neighbor across the street is a huge Packers fan & he & I have an ongoing debate about Dom...he loves him, & I have told him for 3 years that he is a bum. Packers would be better with Lovie as D coordinator.

I said a couple hours ago in the GB thread that I would love to have Lovie replace Capers. I dont know if there's a ton of angst in GB Nation right now. We lost to a better team. GB fans certainly aren't blaming Rodgers.

Yeah, but it's not "real football."

In reality though Lovie would come in, install his defense, spend the entire off season and season finding his 3 technique, get rid of clay and then leave after 1 year.

I would raid the Ravens staff. They have a few good defensive coaches with impressive resumes that could stick with a 3-4 but run a man's version of it and not Capers soft non-physical bullshit. Their defensive backs coach and inside linebackers coach could be the answer. Alot of the other 3-4 guys around the league are old as hell and re-treads.
