I think you guys are really underestimating how bad the pay scale is for MLB players before 30. Mark Appel is going to end up with career earnings of somewhere around $7 million. Kyle Schwarber through four years has gotten $5 million and will be at $8 million after 5 years.

Roquan Smith just got $18 million guaranteed for four years and pretty much can't lose that. The Bears have a team option for year 5 but those are normally pretty good in terms of compensation.

If you are going to be good at football, and good at baseball, the odds are very small that you will surpass what you what have made in football by the time you are 30. Even Kris Bryant, who has been as good as you could ever project a young player to be, is 27 and 6 years into his career and at $19 million.

Now, after 7 or 8 years if you are the top 2 free agents when you actually get to do it, and the owners feel like spending the money you can get the mega deals but those deals exist in football too.

The only real reason to play baseball is that it doesn't destroy your brain.

I wouldn't disagree that it is off, but what is the longevity of MLB vs NFL?

I'm sure we can argue about it but the average MLB career is 5.6 years, and the average NFL career is 3.3 years. That is why it is so much better to be an NFL first round draft pick. You get a much bigger contract on the first one. Most MLB draft picks will be lucky to have the career of Gordon Beckham. Cody Parkey will surpass Beckham in career earnings at the end of his Bears contract.

Longevity of a baseball career is skewed with survivor bias. Of the players making MLB, they average 5.6 years. I bet 1/4 of the first round picks don’t make MLB.

First round NFL pick will be on the roster week one.

MLB seems pretty concerned about this.

I think football is the way to go for any elite QB. Other than that I would choose baseball

I think it is pretty much any projected first round pick. Sony Michel is getting $8 million guaranteed and almost certainly will get all $9.5 million. He was the second to last pick. The #1 pick in the 2018 MLB draft just got a record of $7.5 million but will have to wait far longer to get his big payday if he ever does.

For first round picks it is the NFL.

In general I would say the NFL too but it depends on the situation.

Then why does JORR keep arguing otherwise?

Old guys like him and rpb are clinging to the last whimpers of MLB being relevant.

Get rich quick in the NBA as long as you meet minimum height and skills qualifications. Brian Scalabrine made $20M over 11 seasons by playing in 47 games per year. 13 minutes per game on average over those 11 seasons.

3ppg 2rbg

$20M

Yup. I watched it live and that would have me concerned about a position as important as QB.

I was listening on my computer at work, so I didn't see it. I thought it was a bit. How in the hell could anyone send him out there like that?

I agree that that dude does not have the temperament to be an NFL QB. Or the face of any sports franchise.

I heard the DP interview and thought "Wow, what a dick".

Then heard him on Rich Eisen, somebody had gotten to him , or to Rich, and it went much smoother. He still didn't say much about the choice, or Gatoraide for that matter. He's no Payton Manning and definitely no Patrick Mahomes. Pass.

Ok let me break it down a little further from what I’m reading online.

Kyler and his crew are leveraging his baseball career against where he’s going to get drafted in the NFL. More specifically, who he’s going to get drafted by. Kyler can basically tell certain teams he wants to play with them, and other teams don’t draft me I’ll play baseball.

How does turning him into Helen Keller for an interview achieve that goal?

Early onset CTE is a risky move, but I respect his devotion to the bit.

That's pretty obvious without even having to read anything more further online and he's doing a bad job of communicating that.

Isn't this the Elway playbook?

To me, I think it’s obvious after today he does not want to play football.

His dad must be Lavar level vicariously controlling.

I thought the opposite. He's playing football but wants the debates.

This guy is a moron. Would not of drafted him in the 1st rd of the MLB draft, would not touch him in an NFL draft.

Mock drafts have this guy definitely going in the top 12, he's going to get paid an obscene amount and be back to playing baseball in 4 years. I don't see this guy even being backup level good in the NFL.

Would you really want a 25/26yr old failed football player, at that point?
