Fuck understanding. That guillotine cost a lot of money and we are going to use it

It's that season. It's not helpful in any way either but we have to be outraged to the max about everything.

People are dumb. If you silence people with different opinions, they will never seriously engage in the discussion again. They will nod their heads and go to their corner of the room.

for you i suggest nodding your head and then placing it into an oven.

I put some thought into that because you see signs and statements that if you’re silent you’re part of the problem. But it sure seems that every time a well known white person weighs in, they get skewered. It seems much easier just to stay silent.

If every well known white person is saying stupid shit, then we obviously have a major problem.

There is no perfect way to say anything. You want people to give you their genuine perspective and begin a dialogue from there, not tell you what they believe you want to hear. We're demanding that everyone be perfect/bullshit us or they should be immediately shouted down

nobody's asking for perfection. Just say something halfway nice or don't say anything at all, like Denis. OR say whatever stupid shit you want to say and realize people will get pissed off.

What did Fangio say that was stupid? If we're getting to the point where we are attacking everyone for not completely understanding something, being a little clumsy with their words or not saying EXACTLY what we want to hear, we're in a lot of trouble.

In the middle of the worst race riot in 50 years he said "I don't see any racism or discrimination" in the NFL, while he knows damn well the lack of black coaches in the NFL has been a huge story for years.

That's pretty damn stupid.

He was speaking of the playing field and locker room. LISTENING to his entire statement makes that clear.

Yep. It also seems that only the statements from one side (the unwoke side) are ever scrutinized. When I see people complain that there aren't enough black NFL coaches because the percentage doesn't match the high percentage of black players, (even though their percentage is roughly the same as overall population), I keep wanting someone to ask them why that correlation matters.

“If society reflected an NFL team, we’d all be great,” he added.

Yeah there's a lot of ambiguity there. My bad.

Society in 2020 has been the Cleveland Browns. Not so great.

I don't think it's all of the content in his statement that's a problem, I think I know what it means, but it's also lack of self-awareness. For example, it's sort of like if a bunch of white Americans moved to Sri Lanka and then later on you've got this Sri Lankan saying I'm not sure what the problem is, there's no racism or discrimination against whites here. Yeah, well you wouldn't necessarily be the one experiencing it, so no shit you're not seeing it.

The races of NFL and NBA players don't reflect society. Why doesn't that matter but everything else does?

It was entirely about players from all walks of life being able to set aside any differences they may come into the locker room with and fight together as brothers. EVERY place in America would be better if we all did that. Fangio was absolutely right. Any other interpretation of his statement is unfortunate and wrong.

You're right, and I wasn't thinking of that angle. I was looking strictly at the meritocracy part.

Everyone's so sensitive these days, like our entire society has an inferiority complex with a touch of social anxiety.

Poor Vic, walking around thinking people are people, and catching shit for it.

You couldn't find a better group than NFL coaches if you were looking for someone with blinders on about anything but on the field discussion.

The NFL is hardly a meritocracy.

A lot of thinking goes into finding a backup, beyond pure talent. Still, Kap was a borderline great QB for a little while and those guys can normally hang around for a decade based on past performance.

I don't think you can have the Kap discussion without also acknowledging Reid, which I have yet to hear anywhere. It doesn't negate Kap but it does provide context.

Here's my problem with Kap: the last time I saw him I laid quite a bit of money on him to beat the Bears in a driving snowstorm as I sat there in the stadium. I also picked him up in fantasy that day with the playoffs on the line confident he would have a great game with his legs or arm. I also still hate Evan Berry of Tennessee for running back an int up 38-6 with no time left on the clock and the O/U at 45 in the 2016 Outback Bowl. These things cause lifelong bias

Kaep had a contract in which he could have done this and opted out.
