This would be a mistake unless the offer is ridiculous. You can't start with the first pick and then end up trading back to the point where you aren't getting a top impact player. They made a great trade already - now top it off with a potentially great player in the number 9 spot.

Yep...at #9 they will be able to pick a player who will start THIS season. They desperately need difference makers. I don't see another trade down.

But if you can trade down a few spots and get another 2nd round pick in the deal you could perhaps get 2 starters for this season. No doubt they need difference makers.

one week left. Here is what it looks like to me

1. Carolina- Bryce Young
2. Texans- Will Anderson
3. Raiders (trade with Cards)- CJ Stroud
4. Colts- Levis
5. Seahawks- Tyree Wilson
6. Lions- Gonzalez
7. Cards- Witherspoon
8. Falcons- Njigba
9. BearsSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS- Carter

BearSSSS (I hope) go with Skoronski or Paris Johnson at the 9 pick. I think there's just too much risk with Jalen Carter.

The Eagles are expected to take either Carter or Robinson if they fall to 10. If the top three non-QB on the Bears board are still there at 9, dropping back to 12 and trading with Houston isn't the worst thing in the world. Maybe trade 9 and their 3rd for 12 and 33.

The trade down really would be much more of a benefit to the Texans than the Bears so they would be expected to make a bit of an overpay. I'd say 12 and 65 for 9. Houston also has 73 if they feel 65 is too great an overpay. 73 is only a 75 point difference on the standard trade chart.

I do agree though that I'd be targeting that second round pick and would sprinkle on something of ours to get it

Its a classic case of valuing picks over actual players. It would be very Bears-y to start with the number one overall pick and end up with a mid-level 1st round pick and a bunch of 2nd and 3rd rounders who turn into nothing. Reap the benefit of having a shitty season last year and get as good of a player as you can at 9. The trade with the Panthers was great, don't overdo it just to "accumulate picks".

trading down to 9 meant most likely foregoing an elite talent

9 still will likely allow them to still draft the top player at a position of need

I don't think the drop to 12 affects that all that much

dropping to something like 17 definitely does

The Jaguars may be in the market for another tackle.

Just threw on Draft Day; I don’t think I ever noticed Vontae Mack was the first overall pick as a middle linebacker.

Further to that, Costner’s plan was to use two top 10 picks on a MLB and a RB, while rolling out a QB best known for squatting a lot of weight. And for this he was widely celebrated.

With the bucket of OT's, I agree that 12 would be fine. Trading down is fine if they get a great pick back or they have four guys that they like equally. Otherwise, just grab the guy you like most.

I would be upset if that pick is not a lineman.

Worth a gander. The typical overdramatized Costner sports movie akin to For Love of the Game.

Will the draft outdraw the NBA playoff game tonight?
Kinds cowardly of the NBA to more or less avoid tonight.

Hopefully the players don’t have a nine mile walk to the stage like last year.

It took me a very short time to switch from ESPN to NFL Network. Good god, I didn’t think that ESPN could be even more annoying than usual, but there you go.

Real shame they didn’t bring out the Bud Light tranny to announce the first pick.
