Or the NFL actually adapt a college rule and give them 15 yards instead of a spot foul. Wishful thinking though.

This. And no automatic first down with defensive holding.

Then watch your receivers get murdered in the endzone on long passes. Spot fouls are the way to go with PI but for the love of God they gotta call it better. Much better.
THe one that pisses me off is the defenseless receiver calls. First, if a QB leaves a receiver in a defenseless position that's between the receiver and the QB. I don't see a need for the league to protect a receiver going up for a ball 3 feet over his head. Second, you're forcing the defense to ALLOW that receiver to make an uncontested catch. That's all kinds of wrong.

Agreed pasta ....the scoring is out of control.

the illegal hits should be fines by a review board not penalties by these refs ...these refs suck n the momentum is killed by these old fucks stopping the game for 10minutes to review a call.

That face guarding defensive back not looking back at ball is dumb too. Who cares what he does as long as not mugging the rec?

I hear you... The biggest thing that offends my sensibilities is when a defense works its ass off to get a 3rd and long, and some bullshit D holding call wastes it all. That was fine when scoring was at a premium and the D could still hope to get a stop later in the drive. Nowadays, it's nearly impossible to get stops anyway. When they give it up on some ticky - tack penalty, it's completely deflating.

Tackling techniques aren't helping this problem, either.

I don't understand why a team can't/won't zig where the rest of the league zags and run a super-run-heavy offense with conscientious tackling on defense.

This is basically what the 49ers, Seahawks, and Panthers are doing.

I can't believe so many guys are seemingly not being benched over whiffing on the "highlight" tackle, which is to ram a guy with the shoulders so he theatrically falls backwards while the tackler remains upright. I have to think good coaches are going to bench a guy, even if he actually succeeds with the highlight tackle, for failing to use proper technique. Just wrap them up and get them down - there's no need to perform a Herculean move when a simple tackle will do. A shoestring tackle has the same result as your pathetic attempt at ramming does, and probably has a higher success rate.

Yep - I've never seen so many seemingly dead plays that end up going for 6 or 7 yards because the defender is just flailing or not wrapping up.

Extend the 5 yd zone where you can touch a receiver to 10

Well hey, there you go. It'd be nice to swing the pendulum back a little bit; passinterferenceball is unwatchable.

Sacks are down across the league. According to ESPN Stats & Information, there have been 384 sacks so far this season. Through six weeks last season, there were 490. Sack percentage (which is sacks per passing play) also is down, from 7.1 percent for all of last season to 6.0 percent so far this season.

Over 20% decrease! That's crazy.

Not that crazy if you remember J'Marcus Webb retired in the offseason.
