I don't see how you can compare QBs across eras. The game is totally different.

The inflated stats of today's QBs have made them almost useless, especially yardage. Every week, some no-name perennial backup is throwing for 400 yards. When have you ever thought to yourself "This team has a shot to go all the way because of the guy under center"? Never. Cutler is no exception.
