Who needs Roger Gooddell when you can hire a war criminal instead?

After today's press conference, Lovie's defense is no longer the worst in the league.

It occurs to me that Gooddell (well, any GM hired by ownership really) is essentially in the same role of old-timey WWF "President" Jack Tunney ... on camera, he's got the power ... off camera, his power is nominal at best ... and whatever he says in public is entirely 'worked', and in private is probably a lie to some degree.

... actually, Tunney was essentially the regional promoter for Canada, so it wouldn't be entirely difficult to argue that a kayfabe pro wrestling 'president' had more actual power in his chosen profession than the real NFL GM today ...

I can see that.

It would also be the dumbest idea in professional football's history. With the exception of investing in the XFL.

Why would that be dumb? Aside from having worked for Bush is she not considered bright and a longtime football fan?

Too divisive.

The NFL prints money but right now they are losing in the court of public opinion. Whether white conservative men or liberal women (and those who act as though they have ovaries) she would be a win on the fronts that matter most. That she knows the game well enough to be on the NCAA playoff committee is plus. She knows crisis management, public relations, and how to make everyone in the room comfortable enough to go along with what's best for everyone. She doesn't have to hold the job for a lifetime, just long enough for people to forget Goodell.

One bigtime sponsor jump on the Roger Gotta Go wagon and he is done. Until then he is safe.

If she didn't demand changing the name of the Redskins within her first hour on the job, Keith Olbermann and Deadspin would call her a race traitor and lead the charge to replace her too. In fact, I bet they want to call her a race traitor for any reason. Also, she was a big part of a particularly grim chapter of American history.
