Sounds similar to the NBA policy that's been in place for a while (but was collectively bargained--will the NFLPA push back?). |

Bernsie says that the controversy is not what harmed the NFL's ratings. Have no idea if this is true or not. |

Maybe just go back to doing the stupid anthem shit then having the players come out ... you know, like they did forever before getting that sweet DoD money. College still does it this way and nobody seems to be squirting their skirt about it. Or, get rid of the anthem and replace it with James Brown's Living In America and have the cheerleaders and players come out dancing to it. Either one works for me. |

General disinterest in the game (in part because of the over-saturation of commercials) and cord-cutting & streaming reducing/skewing viewership numbers would seem to have a far greater effect than loudmouthed crackers that claim they won't watch football again (which I'm sure 90%+ were either lying or came back within a few weeks). |

Tough shit for the kneelers . We all have work rules we don’t like that we have to abide by . Deal with it or quit . |

Would players who kneel before the anthem still get fined? That seemed to equally upset the many people who booed them even when they subsequently did stand for the anthem and definitely shows this was all about respecting the flag and anthem and nothing else. |

I'd rather the NFL worry about fixing catch/no catch, terrible penalty calls, lengthy replays, and bullshit roughing penalties than what happens during the National Anthem. |

It would be great if the NFLPA could simply have the players quit en masse (as their contracts expire and form their own league apart from the McCaskeys/Maras/McNairs/etc. The owners by and large don't own their own stadiums and the do nothing middle men could be exorcised. And I'm certain that guys like Jerry Jones, Kronke and the others who actually have vested interests in their real estate would jump at not being bogged down by the welfare queens in Ohio, Arizona, San Diego or Florida. |

Exactly. Ratings are down across the board due to the ridiculous amount of choices as well as the many options for viewing which are not easily measured by Nielsen. As a side note, it's funny how many people want to attribute lower ratings to the kneeling controversy but fail to note the dramatic fall off in the always patriotic world of Nascar. From a related article in the Guardian... Still, things could be worse for the NFL. It could be Nascar. A decade ago the sport emerged as an unlikely challenger to pro football’s small-screen primacy, attracting nearly 20 million viewers to the 2006 Daytona 500. But Nascar has lost more than 45% of its audience since then, according to Nielsen. |

It's impossible to say the protests did not affect the ratings. So when they go down people are going to want someone to blame. |

Guessing players who feel compelled to protest will just find another way? |
