Marvin Lewis
Adam Gase
Steve Wilks
Dirk Koetter
Todd Bowles
Vance Joseph
Add in McCarthy and Hue Jackson, and we're up to 8 this year

Plus the Raiders hired Mike Mayock to be their GM

He should have been gone years ago, which is why I'm shocked it finally happened...

Gotta give the guy a first year.

This is probably the first Black Monday in a decade I didn't want the Bears head coach fired.

I think this happens frequently with teams who become relevant all of a sudden after years of irrelevance. Lewis changed expectations in Cincy. He probably got kept around longer than he would have in other cities primarily because Cincy wasn't used to being relevant. They didn't know how to sustain whatever [modest] success Lewis got them accustomed to without Lewis himself.

I think part of it was them wanting to emulate the Steelers and the consistency at Head Coach, too.

This is one of the public justifications I see all the time for Lewis' tenure but I think a lot of it just boils down to Mike Brown's Reinsdorf qualities of cheapness and loyalty.

To be clear, I dont think it justifies it. It's faulty thinking. It would be like the Bears hanging on to Cutler because Brady has been in NE so long. There's a reason Steeler coaches were there that long.

Post subject:  Re: Black Monday

Oh I know. I just think Mike Brown is even simpler than that and hasn't even bothered to strategize at the level of "Steelers are doing it, must be good." It's more like "this guy's good enough and a changing things up will cost me time and money."

Remember when we thought Adam Gase was a future star because he made Jay Cutler kind of the same but the team was decent?

He'll still probably get any OC job he wants. I've already seen Lions fans clamoring for him, even though his main claim to fame of simplifying and stripping down an offense to better accommodate a mistake prone QB seems exactly like what Cooter was already trying to do with Stafford anyway.

His media driven ascent to brilliant coach began while he was watching Peyton Manning run an offense

Atlanta has fired all three coordinators but kept the head coach. Sounds like they got some Cub in them without the Title.

Until I see another head coach on the Bengals sideline(other than Marvin Lewis), I will refuse to believe he is fired.
