Each team gets 2 per game. get first two right you get a 3rd. no automatic review under 2 min. same standard of clear evidence to overturn.

So when the QB throws a TD pass, the other team can challenge and look for holding calls? You really want to go down this road with 22 guys on the field? There is probably something that can be called on every play.

I think a good compromise could be that during the last two minutes of any playoff game, along with the entire 4th quarter as well, the replay official in the booth should be able to buzz the referee to look at something that was blatant and obvious that was not called. The same can be done for the reversal of a call like the Roughing the passer on Brady late in the game, where the KC defender clearly grabbed all jersey and shoulder pads, and didn't touch Brady's helmet.

I don't see how you can let coaches challenge to scrutinize and look for little ticky tack penalties that may not have been called. With how gambling is becoming more and more legal/mainstream, you simply cannot have a penalty that was a clear as the one on the Saints yesterday that is NOT called.

you'd probably have to have the coach specifically indicate what he is contesting. would rather key calls be right.... do not think creating or implementing this would be very easy... the last thing i want is a longer NFL game, but you cant miss these type of calls....

if not replay, then at least teach the refs to huddle on calls but let one or two watch the scoreboard replay so they can unofficially get a second look at it (would be surprised if they dont do this already)

Any system like that will end up with a review on every big play. Look at offsides in hockey. It is literally taking away goals from guys being offsides by microseconds.

My point is, there will be a hold on every TD pass play. I bet there was one on the Saints during the play in question. It sucks. I get it.

That last part is what ultimately will make robot refs impossible. Every play would end in a holding call.

You get 2....challenge any 2 calls you want. that's all you get. Use them wisely. Nothing automatic in the final 2 minutes or called by the refs. 2 changes per team end of story.

Holding will not be reviewable.
You have your original 2 challenges as the currently stand.
Personal fouls and PI can be challenged, but failing a challenge costs you a down. So if its 2nd and 10, your QB throws inc. but you think theres PI you can challenge. If you're wrong, its 4th and 10.

I do not agree with OP where you get a third. You should not get rewarded for getting challenges correct.

I like the loss of down penalty for a bad challenge over losing a timeout. There are way too many wasted / stupid challenges where it's easy to tell they won't win it but coaches use them anyway.
