I just saw this today. I did not realize she got a running start. While this is still pretty impressive, there is almost 100% certainty it would get blocked and you could never kick in a game like that. If she can make a 55 yard fg on a three step approach, then you have a real shot at kicking. |

Regardless of her ability to kick a FG, the NFL would never let a woman play, for safety reasons. |

Clay Travis made the apt comparison to idiots thinking a celebrity taking batting practice who jacks one into the seats ( iI think back in the day , Tom Selleck used to that with regularity ) can play Major League Baseball . |

What about a short, Jewish radio host who can turn around a 95mph heater? |

Or even more aptly, a WNBA player hitting a string of 3-pointers in practice would have little relevance to being able to play in the NBA. |

Her snap to kick was so slow on that 55 yarder that the edge blocker would have flown by her and the ball would have sailed behind him |

I assume every NFL kicker puts a kickoff from 55 yards into the stands behind the goalposts. |

I saw her interviewed that a few NFL teams contacted her to kick in a preseason game tonight but she has a soccer match. But, she said she is planning to practice technique and possibly try out next year for a team. |

She’s like 38 years old. Regardless of her abilities, even if she did make a team in the next year or two, the clock is ticking. |

Her biological clock?Would being pregnant qualify her to be on IR? Also, will Rapinoe be visiting NFL camps demanding she get equal pay to that of Tucker and Gould? |

I wonder why there’s no video of her trying a 55 yard kick with a standard 2 step run up . |

EVERYONE: Kickers aren't real football players. ALSO EVERYONE: WHY DOES SHE THINK SHE CAN PLAY ON A FOOTBALL FIELD AS A KICKER? |

There are two problems with it. 1. There are probably 1,000 kickers who can make the kicks she did. If you include other male soccer players, that number is in the thousands. The tryout/exhibition was purely a PR stunt, and there is zero chance she would win an NFL job on merit. 2. While kickers are somewhat protected, there is a chance she would eventually be in a position to have to make a tackle or be blocked. And unless the opponent is always laying up to avoid the spectacle of hurting a woman, it's not a good look for the NFL to have a woman paralyzed or crippled after taking a shot from a man. |

I don’t think the 2nd point is of much concern. Kickers just get out of the way for the most part on blocked kicks/returns. She won’t be any different from Martin Gramatica in that respect. |

I can't see the yard markers there, but are they saying that was from the opposite 45 yard line, or 55 yards from the goal posts (AKA 38 yard FG)? A family friend, great HS athlete, super talented and athletic, won a contest to kick a field goal at halftime of the local HS rivalry game (the War on the Shore!). He got some advice and training from a couple of local guys who kicked Big10 college. On the night, he hit the ball clean in good weather from a tee on the 40 yard line (50 yards total). Dead on line, fell inches short. His thought "its a lot farther than you think...". He stood to win $10K if it was good, I remember. |

Jaw Breaker wrote: There are two problems with it. We don't really know how accurate she is. All we really know is that she has the ability to kick the ball at a capable level even if she loses a little bit of power by not running 50 feet at the ball.1. The tryout/exhibition was purely a PR stunt, and there is zero chance she would win an NFL job on merit. Of course it would be a publicity stunt. She's already 37 years old and has never played football before. Jaw Breaker wrote: 2. I am sure it has happened but I am legitimately trying to come up with the last time I saw a kicker make a tackle off a blocked kick. It's incredibly rare when those are even returned and most of the time if it is the ball was knocked backwards and everyone either falls on it or the guy picks it up and takes it to the end zone. If you told me that a kicker would be 2% more accurate but in the case of a blocked kick would immediately lay down in a ball to protect themselves I would take the kicker who was 2% more accurate.

I think it’s clear Carli can’t kick in the NFL based on merit but the safety concern stuff is nonsense Jaw Breaker. She’s capable of doing what Kaare did here. |

You can't let her kick like that and it would put the live animal mascots into a frenzy. That's just the way it is. Blame god. |

The safety concern is one of the dumbest arguments I have ever read. Former players are literally shooting themselves in the chest to preserve their brain and the NFL couldn't give two shits, but if a woman somehow makes a team the league will be like "Oh my god! We need to protect women!". |
