I think we could be facing a historic number of coaching vacancies in the NFL after this season, well beyond the usual cyclical eight or so. So many coaches are in a playoffs-or-bust situation that its really a matter of there not being enough playoff spots up for grabs to keep many of them employed. The 49ers, Vikings, Falcons, Lions and Panthers are all in positions to fire their coaches if they dont make it this year, and I dont think any of those teams are realistic shots to make it to the postseason except maybe Atlanta. None seem capable of winning their division.

The AFC is a lot more forgiving but still there's a lot of uncertainty there.

Zimmer, Garrett and Bill O'Brien are probably fucked even if they do make the playoffs but dont make it out of the wild card or maybe even divisional round.

Even some first-year coaches are under immense pressure. If LeFleur or Kitchens dont get it done they could both easily be gone. In fact I dont think anyone's job in the AFC South is 100% secure (even Frank Reich) and aside from Nagy there's a decent chance the whole NFC North gets shitcanned if the Bears win the division and nobody else gets the wild card.

Recih, Vrabel, Zimmer, and Shanahan are fine.

Kitchens definitely on the hot seat. A lot of expectations, but it appears he might be overmatched.

Vrabel and Reich are probably fine. The Colts could elect to tear everything down and start anew though and who knows with Tennessee.

I think Zimmer is basically toast and Shanahan is seriously out of a excuses. They are the worst undefeated team left, worse than even the Lions or Bills.

Kyle Shanahan isn’t going anywhere.

Shanahan gets a pass with the Jimmy G injury from last year. Zimmer will last a couple of more years. The Cousins signing hurts him though; Keenum would have a better option.

You don't miss the playoffs three straight years and still keep your job in this here NFL.

Exception that proves the rule. Shanahan won't survived missing the playoffs ESPECIALLY coming down from a 3-0 start.

To be fair, 49ers ownership is not as stupid or cheap as Mike Brown.

He will. There’s basically a 0% chance him and Reich are fired after this year short of criminal behavior.

Right, but to that point, I think they realized they fucked up with Jimmy G. Shanahan can coach.

They’re on their way to winning the North Frank. This joke works better if he’s not 2-0 against the Bears and Vikings

Rodgers is pretty clearly already at the same place with LeFleur as he was with McCarthy this time last year. 12 is not one to really hide his discontent.

None of this is wrong but I don't think it means he keeps his job.

Not at all. Do you really need me to post about Brady screaming at Belichick to refute this?

I’m less than sold on LeFleur but any narrative that Rodgers is a coach killer is obviously wrong. He put up with McCarthy for a long time. Smart fans wanted him fired after 2016. That should’ve been the last straw.

Give Kyle Shanahan literally any RB and any offensive line in the NFL and he will make that RB productive. He could scheme Kalen Ballage into a 1,000 yard runner if his life depended on it. 49ers aren’t letting him go. They know they just need to get him a league average QB.

I really don't think they know that and looking at the money they put into Garappolo I think it's fairly obvious who will fall on the sword if the 49ers fall apart.

I guess it’s fair to say NFL teams often don’t act logically but nothing would be funnier than the 49ers firing Kyle Shanahan and keeping Jimmy G

If the Bears offense continues to look like dogshit, Nagy's seat will be getting very hot, very fast.

He better get things figured out quick.

There’s not really anything he can to do to get himself fired this year. At minimum you’re talking at the end of next season.

We'll see how things develop this season. Nagy clearly didn't have his unit ready for the start of the season, the offense looks much sloppier than last year, the quarterback is showing signs of regression, and Nagy's refusal to establish a run game is totally confounding. The lack of proper preparation and philosophical rigidity suggest that Nagy may not know what he's doing; as I've previously suggested, there are clear parallels between Nagy's coaching style and that of Gary Crowton.

Barring a catastrophe of a season on every front the Bears are going 7-9 or better. They’re not gonna fire the NFL Coach of the Year if he goes 19-13 his first two years on the job after the team missed the playoffs 7 years in a row previously

Among my favorite storylines every few years - the coach who’s gonna be fired if he doesn’t win the next game he plays even though his team is an underdog.

Post subject:  Re: HOT SEAT 2019/20

Nagy's seat should be a lot hotter than it is. But the McCaskey's love Pace and Pace loves Nagy so he's not even close to losing his job. Like FF said, at minimum Black Monday 2020.

The day will come when he doesn't have a strong figure like Vic Fangio or Chuck Pagano (who is probably going to find a better job this off-season) as DC and will need to actually be a real head coach. I dont know how he'll respond to that, he seems to have his hands full with just the offense. Sucks for him he got stuck with (Pro Bowl QB) Trubisky but that's the job, the Bears are good enough everywhere else to contend.

Yep. They’re a god damn dumpster fire no matter who is coaching. I’m glad I’ve scaled back to only watching them in prime time. No more seeking out Sunday ticket establishments to watch them.

Your observation makes sense, but there are a lot of emerging issues of concern with Nagy. We're going to find out a lot about him over the next 4 or 5 games.
