So the Rams picked first overall in 2016 and, barring a trade, will not pick in the first round again until 2022. They have some analytics dogma in their front office that first-round picks are way overvalued. You could tell before but now its really obvious. It flatly hasn't worked though, they've loaded up on picks outside the top-100 and its resulted in a bunch of pitiful classes. Quantity over quality doesn't seem to be the way yet the Rams are doubling down on it. This + the massive amount of money they are paying Goff has me believing the 2021 pick could be top-five and the 2020's in general may be a really dark decade for LA football. This is a bad trade. |

Before today by far the Rams' two best players are the two guys they drafted in the first round in back-to-back years. Yet they seem intent on never picking in the first round again. Its a bad strategy. You want first crack at the elite talent, even if it doesn't always pan out you've got a much better shot of a guy becoming a true star that way than hoping you strike gold in the fourth. |
