We havent had one of these in a couple weeks !! While the sports world has joined in a national dialogue about race and police bruatlity over the past several days, Denver Broncos coach Vic Fangio told reporters Tuesday he doesn’t believe racism is much of a problem in the NFL. “I think our problems in the NFL along those lines are minimal,” said Fangio, who is white. “We’re a league of meritocracy. You earn what you get, you get what you earn. I don’t see racism at all in the NFL, I don’t see discrimination in the NFL. We all live together, joined as one, for one common goal, and we all intermingle and mix tremendously. “If society reflected an NFL team, we’d all be great,” he added. |

He's absolutely right of course. The only that matters in the NFL is ball. The players know this and the coaches know this, if you cant perform you're on your ass. Wouldn't have it any other way. |

I don't think it's race related but coaching in the NFL is not a meritocracy and it's laughable to suggest other wise. One white one black example, Jeff Fisher and Marvin Lewis, is all you need but there are countless others. |

Jeff Fischer and Marvin Lewis is a single example. And it's a bad one. It makes literally zero sense for teams to quit hiring black employees at the coaching level due to bias. Seems like they dislike white players at that level by that logic. |

The only minority coach that was fired this year was also the only head coach who found a new job. Its preposterous to say the NFL is racist, in a game where the difference between winning and losing is minute and the stakes are so high nobody is going to self-sabotage their chances just for the sake of being discriminatory. The best GM of this century is black. And gtfoh w the Marvin Lewis example. People remarked with bewilderment for years how he kept his job. Jeff Fisher hasn't coached a team in five years, he's old news. Besides the Rams basically brought him in as an agent of destruction so they could get good picks. He was no different for them than John Fox was for the Bears. Are we really upset that teams aren't going out of their way to hire minority coaches to be lame duck punching bags for bad teams? Is that really what this has come down to? |

Eh I get what FF meant now. He's not wrong. I dont think its race-related at all though, the Cowboys fired one OK white-ass coach and replaced him with a retarded white-ass coach. |

And you know, there's more to it than just being "good", especially when you get to bench guys and short minute players. There might be a white guy on the end of an NBA bench that isn't as "good" as a black guy who is playing in Europe or in some lesser league, but that white guy isn't constantly pestering a coach about his shots or his minutes. And the reverse is true too. There might be a "better" white guy out there that can't make a team over a black guy who is a better fit. But you really never hear complaining about that in the NBA because blacks participate in running the league a lot more than they do other leagues. I think that's something people don't understand about Kapernick. There's more to putting a guy on a roster than just talent. Everyone knows Kaepernick comes with his baggage. Maybe he's the 50th best quarterback in the world. Would you take him over the 51st or 52nd best guy? Even if you were a black executive? Probably not. If he was as good as Mahomes, he'd be starting in the NFL and more than a fews teams would deal with what comes with that. But when you're only as good as he is, the other stuff matters. |

Not sure if we discussed the proposed changes to the Rooney rule but those were just awful. Diversifying hires can be encouraged by doing it by coercion is just wrong. At the end of the day the most qualified candidate should be selected. If there are structural issues preventing minorities from being considered for high profile "spring board" jobs (OC, DC) then that should be examined. |

You don't get to be a OC or DC unless you are a QB coach or LB coach (or other position or ST) -- would be interesting to see the stats on position coaches as far as minority breakouts go. And then maybe you mandate bringing in a minority for every OC or DC hire, and kind of work your way up from the bottom. |
