I watched him play a couple games on tv last year.

He’s real good, but I’d need to see another dominant season from him before I’d commit.

well, then you won't get him

There will be teams with young qb who will be in a position to draft him and will be willing to trade down, if that is something Pace is looking to do

Also, I don’t really trust people with two first names.

Yeah, you wonder how Alabama ever loses a game, they start each game with a lineup full of future NFL players.

Their 2 deep at every position is guaranteed at least some time on an NFL roster

They used to have maybe one stud receiver every couple years, but the last 3 years that position has been deeper than ever in the history of Alabama football.

How you feeling about KJ Costello recently?

like the broadcasters said in the UK game this weekend, it was remarkable how well he played against LSU given the little time he had to learn the system. I think they will be a team that gets better as the season progresses. UK D is legit though. I actually played UK this weekend with a lot of confidence.

I think he is an NFL QB but not a first rounder and never was a day 1 starter type. Trask probably isn't either (day 1 starter).

I’m bullish on Trask right now.

have to see how the arm strength is during objective testing after the season

He has the technical portions of being a QB under control.

couldn't start in high school always is a red flag

Maybe LSU is just really bad.

They appear to be but if you watch that game, he was affirmatively very good, not just LSU being bad.

Leach was asked about a QB change today and didn't shoot it down.

My first guy from this thread got too good. Word must have gotten out that Dr. Ken was on this pick.

I think KJ ends up as a Bear.

I'm guessing the Bears were going to target Davis Mills but I think he's going to be the hot name now that every other QB has settled into their overdrafted slot.

Mills would cost the Bears too much. So, they overdraft him or they overdraft KJ later. Best case scenario is the Bears are able to swing getting Mills in the late 3rd or top of 4 and also get KJ with one of their late picks.

I'm all for grabbing both of them.

I'd like to see them keep their Rd3 pick and package a pick from next year, probably the R3, and grab Mills with an extra pick at R3/R4 to give them 4 picks in the top 4 rounds this year.

I think you can grab 2 OLs of quality (maybe trade down a few spots for Cosmi at OT in R1 and get Smith or Davis at OG for R3 - use that extra pick from trading down in R1 to package for that Mills pick I mentioned earlier).

Then go R2 CB (I like Joseph at R2), then Mills.

Doc, with all due respect, I think we need to stop targeting “developmental” QBs in the later rounds of the draft.

If you’re gonna draft a QB, you do it in round 1 or 2.

Don’t waste a later round pick on a project QB when you can easily find depth at multiple positions in rounds 3-7.

I’m with you that OL has to be the priority early in the draft.

As a caveat, if you can get a QB who has slid into round 3 like Mond, Trask, or whoever this Mills guy is then I’m ok with it.

So Jbills you have changed your mind on the bears having to draft OL in the first round?

Post subject:  Re: 2021 NFL Draft

I don't think you have much choice given where the Bears are with draft position.

The Bears aren't good enough to draft a R1/R2 QB given what is available. I'm not sold on Mac Jones and wouldn't be jumping up and down with him in R1.

Mills in late 3/ early 4 is fine with me. But, I'd like to see them do that we an extra pick, not with what they have. I think there is depth to fill OL/CB needs in the early rounds.

The developmental KJ would be a 200+ numbered pick. I don't think you find much production there and it's worth a shot. The guy was a talent and last years was a clusterfuck for a lot of reasons not under his control.

I would like to see them get Avery Williams with one of those later picks.

What "developmental" Qbs have the Bears drafted in recent memory?

I don't think Mills gets past the 2nd round. He put up insane numbers at his pro day to go with the arm talent. He's a former 5 star who had his college career derailed by knee injury...someone is going to see him as a steal and take him early IMO.

sounds just like the kind of thing Pace would do at 20.

I agree with both of these statements. He's the guy that everybody will scramble for now and I hope that's not the Bears. That's why I see them eventually going for KJ and probably overdrafting him. I think he has potential though.

I'd rather see them try that, draft KJ, on Day 3 than taking Mills in R1/R2 when there are other needs that can almost certainly be addressed in those rounds with productive players at need positions.
