Post subject:  Fumbles through the End Zone
What is your take on this? Should the rules stand as is, turnover and a touch back? Offense keeps the ball at the 1 yard line? 10? 20?

I'm kind of torn on this. On one hand, it does seem like a big punishment to lose the ball like that, but on the other hand hang onto the rock and its a non issue.

Isn't about preventing offenses from deliberately "fumbling" out of bounds in the EZ to avoid a safety. Not sure.

Tough shit for the O. Defense made a play to cause the fumble. Rules favor the offense too much already. Hang on to the fucking football.

Yes. Defense is penalized most of the ride down the field. If you can't secure the ball across the goal line, well, tough shit.

Fumbling it out of bounds at the 1 and you keep the ball. Fumble and somebody knocks it into the end zone first, and you lose the ball. Makes no sense. But neither does fumbling the ball into the end zone and the same falling on it for a TD.

I thought you couldn't advance a fumble. So if the ball is fumbled at the 1, kicked into the endzone, and an OLineman falls on it its not a touchdown but the offense would then keep the ball at the 1yd line. (unless it were 4th down, then my scenario would be a touchback)

i'd be fine if they changed it. make it a penalty or something. 10 yards from spot of fumble but they get to keep the ball.

Me too. I like quirky. That's much of the reason I like baseball. Sacrifice flies but no sacrifice groundballs.

I’m in the keep the rule. The player is almost always extending the ball for the pylon when this happens. They are making the choice of risking ball security for the TD. Don’t want to risk it then run it in.

That play should have been reviewable for the penalty too.

Isn’t there a difference between the ball fumbling out the side and through the back of the end zone?
