moving on from the Dilfer Jenkins thread.... Who is your top 10? I find it really disturbing that the numbers make it impossible to keep Ben Roethlisberger out of the top 10. He has to be there....ugh. I know Nas has to have Elway in there....The numbers say Phillip Rivers belongs on the list...struggling with that one, as well. The 2 guys that should be there but didn't have as many seasons to pad the career numbers are Kurt Warner and Steve Young. I'd take them over Elway and Rivers but numbers don't lie. Brady P. Manning Brees Rodgers Roethlisberger Montana Favre Marino Rivers Elway |

The rings aren't as many as you'd think but I'm taking Manning 24/7. |

6th all time passing yards. 6th all time TD passes Rating 95.2 (13th all time). Completion % 64.9 (15th all-time. He did that over 15 years as a starter. He was pretty fucking good. |

I don't care what the numbers say, Rivers and Big Ben do not belong on a top 10 list. I would take some of the older QBs from a different era with not as flashy of numbers over both of them. |

But if you're just going by passing numbers he can't be. |

But if you're just going by passing numbers he can't be. There has to be some sort of normalization here to account for all the rule changes that made it easier to pass for 600 yards per quarter, doesn't it? I mean you got bums like Mike White passing for 350 - I assume that doesn't happen 20-40 years ago. |

Passing yards mean noting in an era of soft defenses and rules that say you can't touch a WR. I think you gotta throw one Aikman/Young on that list, even though they were loaded with talent on offense. |

Curious to hear what old-timers think about Manning. Could he play in your favorite era? I view him as a scientist - just so adept at dissecting defenses and getting the ball to the most optimal spaces on the field. What do you all think. |

Johnny Unitas threw for 3400 yards in 1963, that's like throwing for 6000 yards in 2022. |

Personally I am not driven by the numbers alone. Numbers have to be a part of it, but I also think more in terms of who I would want leading my team in a Superbowl or big game. |

Put guys like Bradshaw, Stabler or Staubach under today's rules and the offenses being run they would have big numbers. |

1. Brady 2. Manning 3. Montana 4. Marino 5. Unitas 6. Favre 7. Elway 8. Rodgers 9. Brees 10. (Steve) Young I got all eras from 50's till now repped..except 1970s ..if you want to throw some old bastard from the 70s on there and take Rodgers, Brees or Young off, I'm willing to listen. |

Well my list is only going to include guys I saw play and was old enough to appreciate. I saw Staubach and Bradshaw and those guys play but I was a kid. My list basically is 1985-on. And it isn't predicated solely on super bowls, though obviously winning a lot helps your case, but sometimes your situation isn't going to allow for it. Tom Brady Joe Montana Steve Young Peyton Manning Aaron Rodgers John Elway Dan Marino Warren Moon Drew Brees Brett Favre Honorable Mention Kurt Warner Jim Kelly Ben Roethlisberger probably missed a couple. ordering them is tough. |

I guess with Warner, the highs were really high, but the lows were really low. Not a Top 10 guy, IMO. To me: 1. Brady 2. P Manning 3. Marino (fuck Dan Marino) 4. Favre 5. Rodgers 6. Kelly 7. Unitas 8. Elway 9. Breezus 10. Warren Moon |

good dolphin wrote: where does a guy like Dan Fouts fall? dan fouts was my favorite as a kid, he and coryells offense truly ushered in a new generation of "throw first" offenses. Those Chargers teams were so different than anything else. Id throw him on my Honorable Mention list, though I was pretty young when I was enjoying him play. |

Jaw Breaker wrote: Steve Young absolutely has to be on the list. I got Young 10th but he easily could fall off. He put up some big numbers in the mid 90s before the rules lockdown, but again had a shitload of talent and even though his resume says 3 Superbowl's he was a backup for 2 of those so really only 1 counts. His shit seasons to start his career should absolutely be counted against him (vs a guy like Manning that lit it up from day 1). |

Young was so devastating with his running ability and his long ball was about as pretty and accurate as any that anyone has ever thrown. He and Warren Moon threw the most gorgeous long passes I have ever seen. |

1. Brady 2. Manning 3. Montana 4. Marino This is my top 4, but after that is gets really hard. Lots of options to go in the 5-10 spot. |

Warner 17. Staubach 18. Young 19. Starr 20. Fouts If Montana didn't have Rice, Taylor, Craig, etc...he's not nearly the QB he gets credit for. |
