Quote: “I want to get something long-term done. I want a team that wants me long term. I'm at the peak of my game, right? As long as I'm healthy, I'm gonna score you another 20 touchdowns. I'm gonna have, you know, another 1,600 all-purpose yards. I'm getting half my value of what I could be getting. I am relentlessly pursuing someone who wants me for the long term.” - Austin Ekeler https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/n ... 513735002/ Sorry, dude. Everything you said is probably true but you aren't getting paid. The only way you do is if some eccentric owner like Jerry Jones pulls a Ryan Pace and massively overpays for you. Absent that, and assuming GMs are rationale....you're not getting what you probably would have got 10-15 years ago. Sorry, dude. You play the wrong position. |

As LBs continue to get smaller, some coach is going to bring back the power running game and there will be an RB resurgence |

After careful consideration, we regret to inform him that he has not been selected. We will retain his application in our database and wish him luck in his six games left as a viable RB. |

The NFL has colluded to suppress the contracts of RBs and now TEs. Pretty soon, the only players who will get big contracts will be quarterbacks. |

No collusion, just slowly realizing what I've been saying for 20 years, these guys are a dime a dozen..if it's very easy to replace you...you won't make as much money as someone who's harder to replace. Supply n demand. |

Trying to think of RBs who would have scored massive deals not too long ago but were basically told to get lost or got tagged: LeVeon Bell - career ruined because he held out, didn't get a deal, sat a whole season and came back washed. Austin Ekeler Barkley Kareem Hunt |

I think the Giants will sign Barkley at some point this season for multiple seasons, but not for a jackpot deal. |

Injury or not, he didn't produce for those 2 years and was well paid, he didn't earn it. |

Barkley has been healthy for two full seasons I believe. During those two seasons be finished second and fourth overall in rushing yards. His contract was a pretty large rookie deal. |

In the spirit of the thread's subject, I think 8-15 years ago he would have received a monster deal. It might have been somewhat muted due to his injury history, but no one in the 2000s and maybe early 2010s is not going after someone like Barkley. Now that RBs are viewed as disposable - except the very elite of the elite (Henry, McAfferey, etc.) - Barkley's situation makes sense to me. |

Running backs were valued enough for CMC and Barkley to be top 6 picks in back to back years. |

So are you saying you don't believe RBs are being devalued? |

That scared teams away from investing in elite backs. |
