As Tall Midget first reported here, Matt Eberflus ran a lax training camp that left the team unprepared for much of the first half of the season. The effects of Eberflus' poor team management was exacerbated by the NFL collective bargaining agreement, which limits offseason team workouts and training camp practice time. These rules heavily favor veteran teams, who are therefore more likely to win early-season matchups against young teams. As Tall Midget indicated, however, young teams should show significant improvement in the second half of the season as they benefit from game experience and accumulating practice time. This is especially true for teams that have drafted wisely and have acquired quality free agents. The Bears are beginning to show signs that they have done so at several positions (left tackle, right tackle, cornerback, defensive line, linebacker, etc). The trade for Montez Sweat also appears to have paid significant dividends for the Bears.

I actually had it on until halftime, the last few minutes Al Michaels and Herbstreit were hilarious like they had nothing to say . Should have just gone all Hawk and went silent

That is when I bailed, too. They and Tony Gonzales were almost cringeworthy. Michaels already panicking about how bad the Saints might be next week.

Browning has been anything but mediocre.

lowest paid QB in the league,

Bengals can offer Browning league min again next season and he has to accept. And since I believe this is Browning's season 1 on the clock (didn't get any qualifying time with Minnesota or last season with Cincy), they could do the same the next season/2025. Browning wouldn't even be a RFA until after 2025-going-into-2026.

Obviously Browning continues to play well the Bengals will use that weird ERFA rule to leverage a favorable long term deal out of Browning, or then sign and trade him?

Burrow scheduled to make $55 million next season. Brown family notoriously cheap--players have to pay for their own food on site etc--but trading Burrow seems out of the question, despite his y00ge salary and cap hit. But who knows.

Bears swap the 1st overall to Cincy for Bengals 18th (currently) + Browning? For Burrow? Lotta football left to play yet this season but Browning's looking like Brock Purdy 2.0; folks are saying if he hadn't had such a crap combine he'd have been drafted. Browning turns 28 in April; Burrow hits 28 December 2024.

Bengals could sit on Browning as Burrow's backup; but if he's got value seems like you'd wanna flip him for something that can help Burrow win now rather than have that value holding a clipboard on the sidelines.
