Yeah, the Bengals coming within a Chiefs forfeit of making the playoffs kinda took them off the coaching carousel. Makes sense.

Still waiting for word on Antonio Pierce.

Mike McCarthy not fired yet either. Giants keeping everyone. Jaguars keeping Trent Baalke is a huge surprise.

McCarthy doesn’t have to be fired, his contract expires in a week or so.

OK I’m sorry, the Cowboys have not said whether they will keep as head coach. You call that what you want.

Pierce…gone.

That gives us:
- Bears
- Jags
- Jets
- Raiders
- Pats
- Saints

Cowboys have still not responded to the Bears request to interview McCarthy.

Starting to think that if Mike McCarthy is available that means Ben Johnson isn’t. Cowboys are lining up their replacement before letting McCarthy leave.

I know the adage is that there are only 32 of these jobs so you'd be crazy not to want one, but man oh man those are the dregs of NFL front offices. These are Lovie-coaching-the-Texans job openings. Someone go get Jim Caldwell and Ken Whisenhunt. Yikes.

Why would anyone need permission to interview McCarthy if Jones doesn’t re-sign him by next week? Johnson won’t be available until the following week at the earliest anyway.

The Cowboys have an exclusive negotiating window until the 14th. I don't know if that's an NFL rule or a wrinkle in his contract. The Cowboys can give permission to let McCarthy interview with the Bears before the 14th.

Understood, but is McCarthy considered that hot of a commodity?

It's Jerry Jones, who knows what the fuck he is thinking.

And I'm not sure that Ben Johnson will want to go to Dallas and be expected to make the playoffs with all that cap space tied up in Prescott and Lamb.

Bears denied the opportunity to speak with Mike McCarthy and get his full scouting report.

That'll just push it back a week. They can't interview Johnson in person until the Lions lose. And there is no reason for McCarthy to sign back with the Cowboys until he at least listens to the Bears.

I thought I read Johnson was going to interview with them during this off week for him

They can only do zoom interviews right now.

The Cowboys are stuck / locked in with Dak Prescott as QB1 for 3 more seasons...I don't think it really matters who they pay as Head Coach.

People said this about Russell Wilson, who also cost the Broncos a massive amount in a huge trade. They hired the right coach, endured a transition year and are now in the playoffs. The future for Denver is very bright.

Hot take: I think Denver is peaking.

They’re not getting past Mahomes and they’re going to have to deal with the Chargers when Harbaugh has them fully Harbaugh’d. If they were a stock, I’d short.

If that’s your thought process then if I’m Ben Johnson I’m fleeing the brutal NFCN for the comparatively benign NFCE.

We are going to learn a lot about Kansas City in this playoffs. Are they just football’s ultimate apex predator who has perfected the art of doing just enough to win? The answer has to be yes until proven otherwise. But by this time in two weeks that could be proven otherwise.

Simple fact is that Pat Mahomes is not the player he used to be. Will that player come back for the playoffs? Maybe, but if it doesn’t and he’s really on a decline then Kansas City’s long-term fortunes turn very sour.

Russell Wilson prime > Dak Prescott prime. Their both past their prime.
Congratulations Denver for your 10-7 season and the noticeable improvement. I'm with Antioch....they're peaking now. Too many obstacles ahead of them and I still find their decision to give up draft picks for Sean Payton laughable.
