Starting to think that if Mike McCarthy is available that means Ben Johnson isn’t. Cowboys are lining up their replacement before letting McCarthy leave.

Why would anyone need permission to interview McCarthy if Jones doesn’t re-sign him by next week? Johnson won’t be available until the following week at the earliest anyway.

The Cowboys have an exclusive negotiating window until the 14th. I don't know if that's an NFL rule or a wrinkle in his contract. The Cowboys can give permission to let McCarthy interview with the Bears before the 14th.

That'll just push it back a week. They can't interview Johnson in person until the Lions lose. And there is no reason for McCarthy to sign back with the Cowboys until he at least listens to the Bears.

The Cowboys are stuck / locked in with Dak Prescott as QB1 for 3 more seasons...I don't think it really matters who they pay as Head Coach.

People said this about Russell Wilson, who also cost the Broncos a massive amount in a huge trade. They hired the right coach, endured a transition year and are now in the playoffs. The future for Denver is very bright.
