In the grand tradition of Greg Olsen and Robert Meachem as guys that I fell in love with at the combine, I proclaim this year's Combine Love Affair to be....Tommy Streeter, WR out of Miami. 6'5" / 219 and running a 4.4 40. Projections show him to be a late 3rd round guy.

Sloppy route runner with below-average burst off the line. I love him.

Runner up - Zach Brown, OLB from North Carolina, late 1st round guy.

Who's your Combine guy?

Post subject:  Re: NFL Combine

I understand the theory of the 'combine guy' but after Mike Floyd ran the 4.4, still everyone was saying he doesnt play that fast.

They ran a drill, throw the back shoulder deep pass and Floyd looked the best...by far...he easily turned over the other shoulder and caught the ball in stride with his hands. Most fell, or dropped the ball.

Part of that he the QB making a good pass for the WR's to catch, but Floyd looked like a polished WR when running that drill.

So I will take Floyd as my combine guy, now that he doesnt play that fast.

I was reading that Vontaze Burfict did so poorly that he might drop into the mid-2nd. He's just a big, mean, nasty ILB and I'd take him in a second as a 2nd.

I'm anti-combine.

I just saw on Espn that Andy dalton had the worst vertical jump last year. Most of this crap doesn't mean anything.

Come on, spanky. Join me in an irrational love of someone based solely on bench presses and 40 times.

Yes, Spany you are a Cubs fan. :P

I can't follow the thing either.

He was already in the 2nd for many due to playing on reputation last year. I have him pegged as the this year's guy who drops like a cannon ball into the 4th. If he didn't look good at the combine, he certainly is not going to look good on his most recent film. The red flag for me was his bowl game where he had the chance to redeem a year his coach identified as average. He took a couple of bad roughing the passer penalties which are the only mentionable moments of his night.

I have a feeling he is off several draft boards completely.

By the way, who would care what Andy Dalton's vertical jump is? Some of this stuff matters.

Vontaze running a 5.09 40 is a little disconcerting - but I still think he's a solid inside linebacker.

Post subject:  Re: NFL Combine

My guy is Stephen Hill out of GT 6'4, 215. Fastest time in the 40 out of anyone so far, and did well in "The Gauntlet" as well. Was only predicted to be a 3rd or 4th rounder before combine, and now some say he's a late 1st, early 2nd rounder.

Young guy too, would not turn 21 until around the draft.

I liked him too, spmack. I've read that he's jumped as high as mid-1st. I think that will die down a bit as time goes on. Sounds like he'll be 1st round now for sure.

Too mainstream to be my guy, though.

Stephen Hill running in the 4.4s at 6'4" has to be the guy who suprised the most this weekend.

However, the guy who should have Bears fans creaming their jeans is Cordy Glenn

Andy Dalton's jumping ability does not matter. Speed numbers at the skill positions do.

Also, getting real height/weight measurements is interesting as well. AJ Jenkins shrunk 2 inches from 6'2" to an Earl Bennett-like 6'0".

Your guy AJ Jenkins looked good too, but I don't want him for the Bears.

I don't want a receiver under 6'3" unless you are taking him in rounds 4-7.

Cordy Glenn- 6'6", 345, 4.96 IN THE 40, 31 reps

That's your sure thing in this draft if you can get him.

NFP has him going 23rd to Detroit. I don't think I want a 1st-round guard.

We have Chris Williams.

But he's a guard. You want either a WR, a LT, or a DE with the first pick. Even a LB before you take a Guard.

Agreed. And I think he would go in the 3rd round.

Speed is pretty important for a NFL Linebacker.

Moreso for a Lovie D. He probably wouldn't be a good fit. But, I still like the guy.

NFL.com's rating system for the combine has Luck with a 97 out of 100 which, per their scale, has him as a "Future Hall of Famer" for anyone with a 96-100 ranking - a "A once-in-a-generation type prospect who could change how his position is played."

RG3 is a 95, just 1 point away from Future Hall of Famer consideration.

Looking at your list of guys you feel in love with, they are not exactly that bad....Meacham has had decent years for NO, and we all know about Olsen....they're probably not first round worthy, but they aren't busts either.

I blame Hawg Ass for that one.

I figured this out, and if it is any consolation he is now playing professional basketball in Germany.

I now believe there is enough talent at WR to pass on one in the first and still get someone great if there is a superior talent at #1. Say they get Vincent Jackson in FA, then I would have no problem with them going with smaller, fast WR and Hawgs Joe Adams would fit the bill.

While we are on the topic of fast fat men, Memphis DT Dontari Poe topped Glenn with the same dimensions but a 40 time in the 4.8s. There's your guy to be teamed with Peppers.
