Hines Ward from the Steelers is announcing his retirement. Great Tough Player, more than likely not a Hall of Famer and a Former Georgia Bulldog. |

I think he's gonna make the HOF. 18th in receiving yards, 13th in receiving touchdowns, 2-time superbowl winner, superbowl MVP. |

It would be good if he did, and I would like to see it, but the Hall of fame isn't taking recievers right now, none got in last year, maybe in 5 years we will see. |

The receivers who aren't getting in are loud-mouthed dickheads. Hines seems like a pretty good guy and widely regarded as one of the toughest SOB's to play the game. I think he will be rewarded for that. |

Jerry Rice pretty much is the only receiver in the Hall. Ward will make it eventually. |

I was just pointing out that being a loud mouth jagoff will not keep those truly deserving of election out. see Michael Irvin. It took lofton forever to get in and he too was considered a "good guy". Same thing with monk. Personally I think Andre Reed and a guy like Tim Brown should be considered before Ward. |

Gotta admit it feels strangely euphoric. |

Anybody who was a number 2 to Keenan McCardell at some point in their career is ineligible for being a HOF player. |

I would however be fine with Jimmy Smitts making it though. |

Ward was a very good player. A player people liked to root for. Not a hall of famer. Was he ever a top 5 reciever? |

His numbers arent there to make it in. The blocking aspect is also in question to me. He is regarded as a great downfield blocker, that is probably true, I dont watch Steelers receiver game tape. I do recall a lot of vicious crackback blocks on unsuspecting players. Blocking is surely a part of the game but it isnt how you judge greatness at the WR position. Would you let a good but not great offensive lineman into the hall because he caught 2TDs a season playing as an elegible receiver on the goalline? Sure it may look nice but it isnt what makes him great at his position. If Cris Carter hasnt made it then Ward sure as hell shouldnt. I dont care how nice the guy is. |

From this era, Moss and TO will go in before Ward does. |
