.....because the new #2 qb for the Denver Broncos is none other than Caleb Hanie. Apparently the Denver front office was too enamored with Barber giving them the game to pay attention to the play of the opposing team's qb.

John Elway has become quite the gambler.

I have a very, very bad feeling about what has gone down in Denver.

Because Peyton with a Hanie backup is worse than Tebow with a Brady Quinn backup? :?

Hanie should never wear an NFL uniform again unless it is in the confines of his own home.

UH NO. Totally not getting what I'm saying.....

Big money, big commitment on an old QB that had major surgery and may/may not be totally OK to take a major hit or live through the wear and tear.

Elway is rolling the dice, but it might not work out.

It was a home run move by Elway. It buys him a couple years to find his future QB and gives him one of the best in the league right now.

The Peyton signing yes but not the backup. They could have just taken fucking drew stanton back for Tebow and probably still would have gotten the exact same picks back.

I understand your point, but this is still a huge win for Elway. Even in a worst case scenario. First, you get rid of Tebow. I don't have great hate for him. I actually think he could be a very talented piece on the Jets as a 10 play per game option. But he's not a starting QB. Anywhere. Ever. Elway was able to get rid of all that under the Manning deal.

If Manning is hurt immediately, Elway can fall back on all of the medical exams that said he'll be ready to go. If it doesn't work out, he can say we went after Peyton Manning and a Super Bowl Championship. You don't lose your job over that. Again, you're rid of the Tebow situation, gave it a shot, and now you can draft a franchise QB. Or, it works.

Caleb Hanie perhaps just possibly might not be so bad if given the chance to work in a system wherein the Offensive Coordinator is not actively fucking him specifically over as the first order of business week after week after week ... just sayin' ...

Hanie was A'ight in the NFC Championship game a few years back, but last year showed no signs of anything. Not even a pulse.

Makes you think Denver should have kept Tebow for #2.

This. And just because Hanie is listed as the backup now, does not mean he will be the back up for the season. Still a long time to go.

the Peyton move is a good bet, but if he sticks w/ Hanie, it's too risky.

The Broncos could still draft a late round QB and move Hanie to #3.

I expect this will happen. Either way, it Manning gets hurt Denver is fucked, whether they had Hanie or Jason Campbell as a backup

I hope thats not a shot at Bears fans.

It could make a difference. What if Manning has an injury that keeps him out for weeks 12-15 and the Broncos are 7-4. Would suck to have to go to Hanie to keep hope alive

No I said the Campbell signing was good. Emery is off to a flawless start basically. But in general I donny consider veteran average QBs valuable backups. I think the better route is to develop young guys and try to trade them if you have a proven starter.
