2. Matt Ryan - 14 TD, 6 INT, 1,756 yards, 98.8 rtg (6 games)

3. Arian Foster - 659 yds, 10 total TD, 3.9 avg (7)

Ugie, I know this will kill you but you might want to look at Peyton's numbers.

His numbers are pretty solid through 7 games. Leading the NFL in completion percentage is most surprising to me.

Peyton Manning - 14 TD, 4 INT, 1,808 yds, 105.0 rtg.

Definitely in the line-up. Again, probably ranked higher than Brady... if it wasn't for Manning-face.

That'll happen when you throw 6-yard screens.

Right. Except that he has the highest yards per pass attempt in the NFL

What else ya got? Brady never gets a ton of completion via short passes, you know, since the Pats don't use their passing game as a running game. (Brady ranks 15th in yards per pass attempt)

You do realize that statistic includes yardage gained after the catch, right? A 3-yard throw to a RB or WR who then runs for 10 more yards suddenly makes it a 13-yard completion.

Then why is it called yards per attempt and not per completion? That makes no sense.

Regardless, a Brady backer calling out RGIII for throwing short passes is nothing short of laughable.

Well they very well couldn't accurately track how far a ball is thrown in the air and not completed. They have to go off of actual passing yards, which includes yards after catch. That's why "yards per attempt" is a stat that really means nothing, rather than being a function of completions percentage and actual yards.

I wasn't "calling out" anybody. I was merely pointing out that a 70% completion percentage is not surprising when a QB doesn't take many risky throws.

Have you actually watched the Redskins, or are you generalizing that he doesn't take risky throws? He does. it's not all short dump offs and screens. A 70% completion percentage is even more impressive when you couple that with him being a rookie. Look at the bomb Hankerson dropped last Sunday, or Robinson letting the 50-yard pass bounce off his facemask in St. Louis.

Having previously drafted RG3 in two fantasy leagues, yes, I had an invested interest in Redskins games. I remember seeing him throw a lot of screens and short passes consistent with a college-style offense the Redskins have adopted for their top pick.

My point is that completion percentage and yards/attempt shouldn't be the entire basis of your argument. Look at Tim Tebow's stats this season. He's thrown three passes all year but completed two of them. While his completion percentage is lower than RG3's, Tebow's yards/attempt are higher. What does that tell you?

19 Glorious touchdown passes against highly regarded defenses such as the bears, Texans and 49ers....mostly without the #1 receiver.

Just because I'm bored and have nothing better to do at the moment, let's review the Redskins' Pierre Garcon's receiving numbers. (Note: I acknowledge he is injured)

8 receptions, 153 yards, 15.0 YAC

That means in his eight receptions, Garcon averaged 19.1 yards per catch. Applying his average YAC of 15.0 to that number, it is safe to assume that the ball was thrown an average of 4 yards in the air.

Now let's look at Fred Davis' numbers, who is currently the leading receiver for the team. (Note: Also injured this week)

24 receptions, 325 yds, 5.9 YAC

In his 24 catches, Davis averaged 13.5 yards per reception. Applying his average YAC value, the ball was in the air for approximately 7.5 yards.

Santana Moss?

19 rec, 290 yds, 8.0 YAC

In 19 receptions, he averaged 15.3 yards. Again, that means the ball was thrown, on average, 7 yards in the air after applying his YAC.

All this proves is that, on average, RG3 does not throw the ball very far per completion.

J.J. Watt is a worthier candidate than Arian Foster. Also, Eli should be in there above Green, Brady or Foster.

It tells me you used a sample size of three to reference completion percentage. Can I reference his 101.8 passer rating? Second only to Rodgers and PManning. How about 468 rush yards? How about his comebacks against Tampa and NY? Granted the D is awful and failed to hold the lead against NYG.

He's in New York, has comeback victories, led an offense decimated by injuries and Giants are 5-2. Voters eat that shit up.

Wes Welker is 2nd in the NFL in YAC. The Redskins don't have anyone in the top 30.

And more to the point, the average air distance of a Brady pass is essentially identical to that of a Griffin pass (click to sort by "AirYPA").

A guy who is ranked no better than 20th in all major qb statistical categories is not going to be mentioned anywhere near the mvp discussion regardless of team (defensive) success.
