Don't ask me why I came up with this, but it was after the whole 1 point safety thing. What would the ruling be if you kicked a field goal backwards and it went through the other teams uprights? I assume it's a safety. Would anything be different in college vs. the NFL? |

I'm 99 percent sure it would be a safety in either leagues. |

Would anything be different in college vs. the NFL? http://static.nfl.com/static/content/pu ... 20Book.pdf Interesting that the rules permit you to attempt the kick from the line of scrimmage... I imagine that would be blocked fairly easily. Quote: KICK TOUCHES KICKERS’ GOAL POSTS Article 3 If a scrimmage kick touches the kickers’ goal post, uprights, or crossbar, the ball is dead, and it is a safety. See 11-5-1. So this covers the issue of it touching your equipment, but not of it going through your own uprights or out of the end zone... Quote: BALL OUT OF BOUNDS OR NOT RECOVERED IN FIELD OF PLAY Article 4 If a scrimmage kick goes out of bounds between the goal lines or is lying in the field of play with no player attempting to recover it, it is the receiver’s ball at the dead-ball spot, unless the special rules for missed field goals in 11-4- 2 apply. Section 11-4-2 applies to missed field goals specifically... Exception #2 addresses a blocked kick not going past the line of scrimmage, but in this case, we assume the kick is not blocked... Also interesting, section 11-4-1 indicates that if you kicked a field goal and it went through the uprights, but the wind blew it back through the uprights and it landed short, it would not be considered a field goal. |

Thanks newper. What if the ball landed in the end zone. Could the defense pick it up for a touchdown? I know you can return a field goal attempt, but would it be a dead ball in the end zone? |

In college you can receive two points for returning a blocked pat. In high school and pros, ball is dead as soon as defense touches the ball. |

Is Purdue planning their special teams for next year? |
