Adam Schefter says so on twitter. Irsay isn't as crazy as B&B say.

So I guess Irsay won't have to sell the team as Hub suggest Goodell may make him do?

Don't understand this at all right now. Do they figure he's overrated and dealt him before the rest of the league caught on? Perhaps behind the scenes character issues?

I like it for the Browns. The Colts will be a below .500 team this year so their 1st round pick likely will be top-15. Browns wisely going all in for a blue-chip quarterback.

That would be ideal but this is the same "brain" trust that used a first round pick on a 30 year old QB, then selected a great RB in the same round only to trade him after an 11 TD season for a draft pick. Maybe they had concerns about Richardson's youth.

This is the same GM, right?
Also, I don't think the Colts will be that bad. They made the postseason last year, and now have a good back to pair with Luck.

Nope, totally new regime. Colts squeaked out at home against Raiders and now have lost to the Dolphins at home.

Colts still have:
@ SF
vs. SEA
@SD
vs. DEN
@HOU
@ TEN
@CIN
vs. HOU
@ KC

They probably drop at least 7 of those.

The Colts now have arguably the best young RB and QB. The Browns will get a mid 1st round pick at best. This is an awful trade.

Alabama beats the shit out of their running backs. He has a lot of mileage already on that body. His rookie contract should be up soon so this is actually a pretty good move for the Browns. This is not 1965. They need to pass the ball first. Now don't blow your draft picks on a shitty 30 year old qb.

None of this makes sense.

What makes this guy arguably the best young RB???

37th last year in yards per attempt at 3.6. Now he did catch 51 passes but 3.6?? You can't win with a guy getting that many carries with that little production.

I assume he faced an extra defender more often than not since his QB didn't pose a threat.

Kinda reminds me of Steven Jackson. How many playoff games has steven jackson played in? A nice asset but definitely not a guy you focus the offense around.

I agree this is a great trade for Indy, but all of UMN's post makes perfect sense.

running lanes will be easier to find when you go from brandon weeden to andrew luck at QB.... and when you swap out the ravens and bengals in your schedule for titans & jags

The part I didn't get is what about having a good back like Richardson precludes a team from becoming adept at passing the ball as well? I've read some articles discussing the new coaching staff's concern that Richardson doesn't fit in scheme-wise and stuff, and that sort of makes sense, but I'm still not convinced it's a good move to jettison a young RB who is only two years into his rookie deal.

It doesn't make sense. If Cleveland had the option, I think they would trade the Browns instead of TRich. He doesn't work with your system? Say you want to start over and you're taunting Jacksonville to find a way to be more awful.

I agree. If you think he's good and can be good for a long time, you find a way to make it work with him instead of gambling with a draft pick. Trading Richardson really compounds the horrid decision to draft Weeden in the first round of the same draft; new regime or not, at least with Richardson you could be somewhat optimistic about the offense you inherited even while knowing your "second-year" QB sucks, but now everything has changed.

The old regime thought he was OK.

@danwiederer Browns drafted Trent Richardson: They traded 4th, 5th, 7th rders to Vikings to move from No. 4 to No. 3 to get TR.

What young back (2 years or less) is better? He played last year with broken ribs. He is an every down back and will be even better in a good offense.

I'd take Doug Martin. But again, this is a great move for the Colts.

I think Richardson is a top, young talent, but this article argues otherwise: http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/96915 ... me-changer

I'm not sure how much stock I put into his YPC last year, and I don't care what Jim Brown thinks of Richardson. Does anyone who knows more about Richardson care to comment on this article position on Richardson? It essentially says Richardson is not a special back.

Without a QB I don't think any fan base can be excited for their offense. A Super Bowl will never be attainable. The Browns are wisely loading up assets to either draft weapons for a QB they draft with their own draft pick or be able to package it to draft one. Getting a 1st round pick for a RB who's done absolutely nothing except get overdrafted is an A+ in my book.

Agree with Kirkwood.

Running backs are a dime a dozen, do everything you can to get a franchise QB

I really like this deal for the Browns. Trading away a running back almost always works out well for the team that did it. The shelf life for any running back is short. Champ Bailey is still playing in Denver. If the Browns get a quarterback that is still around in 10 years then it was a home run. They weren't winning a Super Bowl on the back of Trent Richardson. They may on the qb they draft.

For as good as Adrian Peterson is, his team still isn't a real Super Bowl contender. You can live without Trent Richardson.

That is exactly how I see this deal. Great move by the Browns. They were not winning anything with him at RB and now they have a shot at getting an impact player in the draft.

I don't think the Colts are going to have a very good year so this should be a pretty good pick.

It gives the Browns a chance to draft a TOP QB in a good QB class and follow it up by getting him a top WR. They have a good looking TE and an emerging WR in Gibson so they may be able to nicely revamp things quickly with this move.

There will be a 3rd, 4th, or 5th round RB that out performs T Rich next year if not this year
