You would think a guy who played in the NFL all those years would have a football.

So Pop Warner football particiapation is down like 10% over the past two years. Someday we'll all be watching soccer. I hope I have CTE by then.

If he had to do it all over again, I bet he would. If I made bajillions of dollars playing football I don't think I'd want my kid to play either.

Soccer is about at the same level as football with concussions.

I find youth soccer to be the most painful to watch of all sports.

Really?

I know that concussions happen in soccer but equal to football?

Women's soccer the numbers crazy, I was shocked myself. My boss has 2 daughters that play at a very high level of soccer, he played football in college. He stated that he would much rather have a son playing football than his daughters playing soccer, at least the football player has a helmet. His daughters have gone thru 3 concussions already.

well, hopefully we can spread the word and put an end to this soccer madness and get kids behind the TV where they belong.

It is.

Though, the easy answer is to ban headers.

Either that, or you will see them wearing some kind of protective helmet also.

did I miss the stories about all the former women soccer players with CTE? The paralyzed ones? The suicidal ones?

I have heard the same thing. The difference is the force of the hit in womens soccer v mens football is exponentially worse. And I have heard all the stories about heading balls and knocking heads when playing, soccer never has another player launching themselves at the other player in hopes of taking that guy out.

When I see the real sports special with former "High level" female soccer stars paralyzed in the same numbers that football has produced they can speak in the same realm.

I knocked my head on a loft wooden beam and it knocked me out while working in a bar. where is the outrage for the bar workers?

And no more of that TAG game! Kids run into each other and hurt their heads! Major cause of concussions!

Pretty soon the only sports left will be Golf and tennis and wait till one day some kid gets hit with a golf ball and every kid will be forced to wear "Golf Helmets"!!!

ITS FOOTBALL = MODERN DAY GLADIATORS Massive Men trying to outscheme and over power other massive men, Nobody is forced to play, everyone is now aware of the issues. GAME ON...or buy a ticket and watch!

I don't think anything in your diatribe I disagree with, just stating that is the information that is out there. My son plays football, I understand what could happen. It is the choice we have both made together.

My 13 yr. wishes he had some earlier say in making that choice. But I knew his football life was/is going to involve a lot of line play & I figured it'd be better for him to sit out some of the formative years without the full pad practices. For the life of me I still don't get the need for constant full pad/contact practices starting at 8-9 yrs. old.

So as a result, my son got no say. But I have no great confidence that I've made the best decision here. Playing just flag football did wonders for him.

My son did not start until his 6th grade year (12 years old), and I have had people say that is to early. Like I said it is easy to understand in today's world the ramifications of what could possibly happen, it is a tough call and maybe I am wrong, but I won't stop him from playing.

My parents refused to let me play football and I'm thankful they did it.

My lack of athletic ability refused to allow me to play football and I'm thankful that it did.

Jesus look at that guy.
How many idiots on this very site were saying that he could still play today?
Mercy.

I thought it was Neil Young when I first looked at it.

yeah my parents didn't let me play either. For a long time I was upset about that. I was always involved in athletics and to watch my friends playing football and I was not allowed got under my skin a lot. But looking back as a parent now I am glad they made that choice.

I played all 4 years in HS, but no football before that too busy playing AYSO soccer. Then I played soccer in college. I'm doomed.
