Thought this story was interesting. Turns out Manning's NFL fate beyond this season may depend on the results of a contractually obligated medical exam on his surgically repaired neck.

I can't envision him retiring if he loses, unless the results of the medical exam compel him to do so. But I'm warming up to the possibility of him leaving if he wins. He's still at the top of his game at 37, he's made his mark in every important statistical category, and there's no where to go except down, especially medically. It will be like Jordan in Utah if he wins - just perfect (though obviously he shouldn't come back if he indeed retires.)

Bronco QBs only retire on top.

 I loved that commercial.

If he wins, which I think he will, I think he'll retire. He may be just the guy to replace Dan Dierdorf on CBS.

No chance in hell the stat whore leaves Favre with the all time TD record. He plays until he owns every single record and then him and archie will create a museum for him.

I think he tries to do an Elway and finish on a two-peat.

He'll announce he's retiring after next year and then give it one more go.

I don't think he'd do that, since he'll break that record @ the Super Bowl anyway.

Here's my question about Peyton Manning

I understand hes a legendary quarterback and his ability to read defenses probably makes them the best or one of the best ever

Is he the first guy that ever figured out defense so well to be able to change plays at the line?

I'm not even being sarcastic I don't remember any stories of anyone else

I know they've always talked about guys being able to read the defences but it just seems so prolific with Manning

Is he that much better/smarter?

Yesterday it seemed like he got a receiver wide open whenever he needed it

Is he gonna be the best OC ever?

Idk how smart he was but he makes me think of Montana. Maybe it was all Bill Walsh idk but he seemed to always know where to go and make it happen against great defenses. Particularly the Bears.

I was thinking Peyton might be the new Bill Walsh

I know these guys are wired a little differently than Joe 6 packs like myself, but say he does retire with a SB win this year. Why would you ever want anything to do with football anymore? Generational wealth, relative youth and in his case, at least decent health, why the fuck would you want to devote anymore time to this game and have to be somewhere? fuck , Mr Mom it , enjoy your money and your kids, sleep in, play golf, get fat and cash the dividend checks.

He strikes me as a guy who lives and breathes it

Eli I could see walking away

I think he's been his own OC for the past five years or so. Ever since that long time OC in Indy left. By that point no new hire OC was going to be more qualified to run the Indy offense than manning.

I don't think this is him alone being able to lead an offense the way he does, but it's obviously a strong suit of his. Also before his physical issues, his arm strength was good, if not great.

I don't remember any QB having the independence in play calling that Manning has.

Didn't a lot of them call their own plays in the 70's early 80's?

Yeah I'm not saying he always relied in craftiness but my god, is he the only qb to ever read a blitz?

I think so but I consider that a different era in complexity.

In the modern offensive era, I think he's unique.

Well it's more than just recognition right. It's deconstructing an entire coverage scheme, to the extent where you know what everyone's role on the defense is in that particular pre snap look, then hitting them in their blind spot once the play starts. And also being good enough to make a play if you end up being wrong in the diagnosis.

Yeah its funny I think there was actually a point in his career where he was too good on offense and they were scoring too quickly

I think he got older he learnedhow ball control and clock control is more important than putting up 55 points in some situations

Manning should go into politics. He'd be great at it, just as he would anything.

Maybe Belichick would send them Brady this off-season.
