Can he negotiate any deal $ he wants now? or is there an NFL rookie free agent set salary?

Nope. Every team has a UDFA cap.

There's a cap so he can only ask for so much. Thing is, he'll be able to get more money in year 3 than any other rookies would be able to.

Nope. Every team has a UDFA cap.

Is that the cap among 15-20 players? or per player?

There is a total rookie spending pool per team I believe.

signed by the Cowboys

Don't the Cowboys have plenty on the OL so that he will have a difficult time getting on the field?

... the Cowboys told Collins they are trying to assemble the greatest offensive line ever. ...

True and weird. I still shake my head that the Fridge was big then.

I stood next to Hilgy in a buffet line at The Deer Path Inn after his retirement. I'd be shocked if he weighed 230 and is very small

So the Cowboys signed him! Good? .....The Cowboys might have essentially picked up 3 first round quality players in this draft by taking these risks. Regular pick in CB Byron Jones....2nd rnd pick in DL Randy Gregory (projected top 10 pick before his weed issue)....and now signing of OL La'el Collins (projected 1st round pick).

Jerry has surpassed Al Davis I think. Just win baby? Just stay out of jail baby! Just dont kill your pregnant ex girlfriend baby!

Interesting.

I cheer for the Bears as well,....but was raised and have remained a Cowboys fan through good & bad. Serious question for Bears fans, and fans of others.....would you have liked to see your team make these risky moves? I'm hoping it works out. Wait and see.

I haven't read the explanation of how they gave him $1.6M guaranteed as a UDFA?

Collins= yes, absolutely.
Gregory= no, I think there is more than just weed to be worried about. His dedication and most importantly his size had me worried.
Gregory= appropriately drafted. The real interesting pick would have been if the Chiefs took Gregory and Jerry was faced with picking Marcus Peters

My theory on NFL teams is that you want to have some questionable characters on the team out of necessity and you will have some based on percentages of their population in the football playing pool. However, you cannot have too many. Cowboys are at that line of too many.

Gregory was a luxury pick. The Cowboys were not in a position to make a luxury pick. A bell cow RB would have made all the sense in the world in that round. The Cowboys could have been sent the NFL into retro with that line and David Johnson out of Northern Iowa.

smacks of desperation. They have had a lot of talent in recent years and nothing came from it either. I think best thing they've done now is build an offensive line...and Collins only adds to that. The niners went to super bowl with 5v first picks on o line....I think your team starts there.

I agree with you on gregory. He does not seem to "get it".

Ya...thats a problem. I think that might be why they are taking the high risk - high reward guys, because the romo window is very close to being closed.
