Congrats to the guy Lovie Smith tossed out after the SB loss to get his buddy in the Def. coordinator job.

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Several members of the Carolina Panthers jokingly referred to being on the “worst 5-0 team" in the NFL after Sunday’s 27-23 victory at Seattle.

It was in response to being referred to nationally as the worst of the unbeaten teams heading into their showdown with the defending NFC Champions.

It’s an “us-against-the-world" mentality that coach Ron Rivera said won’t go away.

“I’m not going to let it," he said. “That’s the truth. We have to have something to play for and something to shoot for. And I think part of it is our guys’ mentality and their thought process, the way they do things.

“We do have a lot to prove and we have to continue to do things to go there. There is a big target out there and there is somebody that is the standard. And that is who you are competing against. And once you become the standard, you become the hunted.”

Rivera was referring to the defending Super Bowl champion New England Patriots, who also are 5-0 after Sunday’s win against Indianapolis.

“The bottom line is they are the gold standard," Rivera said. “Let’s be realistic about it. They’re the defending Super Bowl champs. Last year it was Seattle and I talked about Seattle."

Rivera wasn’t saying this because he’s looking past his upcoming Sunday primetime game against Philadelphia or predicting the Panthers are a Super Bowl contender.

“All I’m talking about is who the target is, who you want to measure yourself against," he said. “And again, right now it’s them. They’re on top of the heap."

Rivera said it won’t take much to keep that chip that has helped the Panthers win a franchise-record nine straight regular-season games dating back to last season.

He’ll remind players they’re going to be in front of a national television audience with another chance to prove they’re better than critics say they are. He’ll remind them that so far they’ve won nothing.

“But the bottom line is we’ve got to play the game," Rivera said. “You can’t get caught up in the hype. And in all honesty, if we have to limit some things that go on around here, we will have to do that. We have to stay focused on the game.”

Somehow, someway....Jared Allen actually got to the QB twice last night in the 4th.

Here, he would always be a step late...

If my guy Harbaugh doesn't end up as the Bears head coach, I would gladly accept Chico as head coach of the beloved.

Glad to see him doing well.

How about Bill Belichick?

How about Bill Belichick?

He would be Scorehead's assistant to Harbaugh
