Akeem made lots of people look silly. He was phenomenal.

That doesn't diminish Shaq's greatness. He was dominant from the first time he stepped on the floor.

Except in this case it pretty much has to diminish his greatness. 312's specific claims were that '95 Shaq was the most dominant player to ever play the game and one of the ten best players of all time. How is it possible to be both of those and get DESTROYED by another player at the same position?

Nobody ever said Shaq was not great or dominant, even in '95. But it's just flat out false to say at that age he was the most dominant ever and one of the 10 best players ever. I don't see how a logical person can end up close to that conclusion.

Oh and also I liked the obvious WYC material. Penny started out with 3 great seasons but since injuries detailed his career he never could be considered great. But '95 Shaq was the most dominant player to ever play(except when he played better centers, I guess). Fun stuff. I like this thread already.

Oh yeah and the Kerry Wood analogy is terrible. Wood was an underachiever while 100% healthy. He also didn't have a 3 year start to his career that made people say he was one of the best of his generation.

not to derail this thread, but i don't think that's a very fair blanket statement. he had a pretty respectable ERA throughout his career as a starting pitcher and had some good stats as a reliever too. most of his career was plagued by injuries but he had the tools to be a very intimidating pitcher.

I don't know much baseball. I've heard Wood described like that near-unanimously so I figured it was true. Looking at his career stats they are underwhelming considering he had the stuff to be dominant like you said.

you don't know much about hoops either but keep typing... let me explain a few things..shaq was something this league had never seen ...he is the best center of all time..when he left l.a., kobe could not get out of the first round until gasol came there... penny best years 94,95 and 96..look at shaqs number in those years and tell me he is not one of the best all time..kerry wood is a pretty good comparison for penny and dozens of other guys who could not over come injuries.

312's thoughts on Penny here are BRUTAL. Clearly has no idea what he is talking about.

it took me a while to get into eating breakfast. i think i started with eating stuff like nutrigrain bars and worked my way up to eating wheaties and some fruit with some juice...it just sets a good tone for the day.

Ok 312 since this is the thread for it we'll see what others think. Who was the better player in 1995, Shaq or Hakeem?

No need to reiterate that Shaq was great and dominant and a beast. That's not in question.

In 95, as much as I love Shaq, you have to say Akeem.

in 95 i would say akeem also ...not sure what that has to do with penny hardaway though...for a career shak>akeem.....hardaway never had a jumper...when he lost his ability to drive to the hoop his career started to fade...shaq is the best center all time.

Who would you rather have for a contending team - Pau Gasol or James Worthy? James

Who's the best 6th man of all time, Manu, Microwave, or someone else? Give me Manu

Would you rather have Anthony Davis or Andrew Bynum right now? Bynum

This is one of my favorites - if Arvydas comes here in 1987 and Drazen never gets killed, who has the better pro career? I'm leaning Drazen but can be swayed.

Anthony Davis suffered a severely sprained ankle in a Hornets workout and almost assuredly is unable to play for Team USA, sources tell Y!

damn i wrote a really long response and something happened :?

anyway

yes Warriors w/ Webber, Hardaway, Mullin and Spreewell could have been a contender. Webber decided to be a bitch and force a trade for pennies on the dollar, and the rest is shitty GS history

Penny......of all the players cut short by injury he is one of the worst. never forget the series where they beat the Bulls after Jordan came back, he was just dominant

would take LeBron easily

all bust starting 5
guess draft position has to be considered otherwise it'd be easy...so i'll stick to relatively high picks

PG- Jay Williams
SG- Shawn Respert
SF- Adam Morrison
PF- Stromile Swift
C- Kwame Brown/Greg Oden (feel he probably would have been better sans injuries, but gets included as a bonus)

Theres no debate here. The Nets are morons. Atlanta is happy as hell to get out from under that contract I bet.
