So some old rich guy is an asshole with some racist ideas. Is that really a shocker? Now they're going to force him to sell his team because of some idiotic shit he said to his "girlfriend"? It seems like the media grabs every story and blows it up far beyond what it deserves. And I'm not just talking about this. I mean the wall-to-wall coverage of a missing plane. CNN treated that like 9/11. The fucking "octomom". And on and on and on. The guy is a jackass. Go to his games or don't. Sign with his team or don't. People seem more upset about this than they do about all the murders that happen in Chicago each weekend.

It does. Unfortunately a lot of people believe that the world is filled with Cliven Bundy's and Donald Sterling's.

If you are going to say this then it is important to point out, again what the media is ignoring, that Tokowitz is Jewish and not white in the sense the media would love for people to believe.

This is something that a lot of people have to put up with on a daily basis. It's hard at times to put ourselves in the shoes of others, but the people who are or have dealt with something similar want to have the conversation.

That would be fantastic to have the conversation if it involves an actual conversation from both sides and not a one sided conversation. For instance, is there a particular reason (other than white people being evil) that whites always leave a neighborhood once it has reached a tipping point? Should we look at ourselves and our group behavior and tendencies before blaming whites?

This would be a fantastic conversation to have. Unfortunately too many whites are self-haters and too many blacks don't want to look internally.

I would never suggest anyone "get over it", but I will say worrying about what other people think- especially idiots- is probably a waste of time. As reprehensible as someone's thoughts may be, they are entitled to them. And you may not want all your thoughts judged by others, lest you be dragged to the public square and humiliated yourself.

Agree only thing I'll add is many blacks feel the same way about whites as far as hatred goes. I see it everyday at work. That street most definitely runs 2 ways.

No doubt about it. It is generally done out of jealousy and not a position of power though.

I don't have to but you're free to make the distinction. Many won't see the difference.

In a perfect world this would be the case. It's far more easier said then done. The issue for many isn't what he believes it is that he is in a position of power and because of his beliefs has the ability to discriminate. It appears that he has been guilty of that over the years.

I've never had an issue having this conversation. I would like to believe that I'm civil whenever we do have this conversation here.

Adam Silver may be the ugliest dude in a America. I give him props for his decision, but we will see how he works out as commish. He never impressed me when he handled the 2nd round of the draft, or any time when he did interviews on various stations.

That key you can pry from his cold dead hands, is my guess.

Now he only hates Jerry Krause.

Michael Jordan, in Roland Lazenby’s, “Michael Jordan: The Life,” discussed his upbringing and his views on race as an elementary-school student. An excerpt (hat tip: Natalie Finn of E! Online):

Earlier that year, a girl at school called Michael a “niggger.”

“I threw a soda at her,” he recalled. “It was a very tough year. I was really rebelling. I considered myself a racist at that time. Basically, I was against all white people.”

I know where this is going: What’s the difference between Jordan and Donald Sterling?

For one, Jordan was a kid, someone with a narrow worldview due to lack of experience. Sterling’s hate comes despite a lifetime of opportunities to see the world differently.

Secondly, Jordan has changed. At that time, he was upset about the treatment his great grandfather – who had recently passed away – had received from whites throughout his life. Jordan’s anger was understandable, based on repeatedly seeing and hearing about whites establishing power over blacks and exercising it to do harm. Sterling came from a place of power, and he used it through housing discrimination and workplace harassment to keep minorities down.

In another excerpt from the book (full disclosure: I receive a free promotional copy), Jordan discussed the aftermath of that incident at school:

“The education came from my parents,” Jordan recalled. “You have to be able to say, OK, that happened back then. Now let’s take it from here and see what happens. it would be very easy to hate people for the rest of your life, and some people have done that. You’ve got to deal with what’s happening now and try to make things better.”

Jordan’s grade-school attitude wasn’t healthy. Jordan the adult knows that, and that’s what matters.

Nobody is perfect, but we should all try to learn and be better. Jordan did.
