Is Griffin better than Chris Paul now?

That's just silly.

Without Chris Paul, the Clippers would be a lottery team.

No. Paul missed like 25% of the season.

As Db put it, if every guy in the league was a free agent would Noah be your 4th pick?

The award isn't for best basketball player. It is for the most valuable player to his team...the one player who contributed most to a team's success.

Noah getting votes makes sense. A lot of sense.

Longley was always overlooked for this award. Politics...

With anyone winning we would have the same discussion. Most valuable to their team versus best player in the league. If it were the former Noah would win. The latter this year Durant or I suppose you could always choose Lebron like you could with MJ.

If it was best player in the league, the award would be stupid. You'd have like 6 winners ever because it would be subjectively the same player for years. It still can be with most valuable, but it's a lot more difficult when they factor in team performance and the player's effect on that performance.

I agree. Like CoY, this is too vague a category. I agree with the suggestions of some pundit who said somethinglike most outstanding player of the year would be a bit more clear, though it wouldn't necessarily make the decision easier.

Didn't this happen with A-Rod during his Texas Rangers years? The team sucked but he was a beast so he received an MVP or two?

laughable man.

I disagree...I view it (and all the other sports' MVP awards) as most valuable or best player in the league overall. Or as biggie put it, the person you would draft first if you could pick anyone. I don't know where the concept of most valuable to one's team came from; I don't think the leagues themselves define it that way, do they? If they did, Andre Dawson wouldn't have been considered.

I thought Vinnie had em at 50ish wins for a couple years b4 CP3.

The Thunder are 3-1 since the speech  .
