Well, he did have a solid career. Too bad most of it was spent on horrible teams that never made the playoffs. Classic "puts up big numbers on a bad team" kind of player

He couldn't help that he was surrounded by all star caliber players like Bryant Reeves, Sam Mack, Darius Miles and Greg Anthony. Once the knees went, he went downhill fast.

I watched Shareef up there in Vancouver...was never really impressed with him...kinda like Loy Vaught in the "best player on a bad team" sense.

kinda-that's a good comparison...but his stay was short whereas Loy was with the Clips for a while as was Shareef...

Ron Mercer has to be the classic good stats on a crap team player in the NBA.

He also made about $94,621,760 in his career (salary only). Not too bad for a 31 year old.

Yeah I couldnt agree more the guy was a stiff but on teams with no talent around him whatsoever he'd drop 16 to 20 ppg. Still when you are counting on Ron Mercer to do anything for you then your team sucks.

reminds me of a quote about Sherman Douglas..."he can get you 20 and 10...but if you need 20 and 10 from him, you're a bad team."

That quote reminds me of my favorite quote from Leroy Hoard. "If you need 2 yards....I'll get you 4. If you need 8 yards....I'll get you 4"
