Lakers or bust deal is my call. Both are holding out for a last second stab at this deal.

Gasol,Bynum, 1st and 2nd round picks this year....and I actually think the Lakers would do it....

Orl needs to put a player int he deal to match salaries.

Lakers front office is vacant, scouts, etc all fired. Mitch has his marching orders...get Howard at all costs.

Kobe is coming to the end, they need the star!!!!

Having a star is LA! It fills the courtside seats with Celeb $$$$...it can't be duplicated,,Kareem,,,Shaq,,,and now D Howard...

With D Howard, Kobe COULD win another title this year...in NJ...they need to build around him.,,

and if I asked you would you rather be in LA or New Jersey?

If the Lakers deal Gasol and Bynum, there chances for a last run at a title are sunk. They have zero depth, and that would get rid of any depth they have left. They would also be forced to take Hedo's terrible contract back. This would actually be a great move for the Magic and keep them in the upper part of the East at least for the next 2 seasons.

The Nets rumor makes no sense either because they have absolutely nothing to offer unless they give up Deron Williams & Brook Lopez, but that would keep them being a bottom feeder team in the east for the future. That Nets team is just bad. Why would he want to go there?

There would probably be a better chance they take Boozer in a trade with the Bulls.

I think the Lakers shpile just offer Bynum straight up for Howard. Bynum is much better than anything any other team is going to offer. The Magic would be stupid to turn the deal down because Dwight will walk for sure this summer and it could set them back a few years if they lose him for nothing and are stuck with a post-LeBron Cavs-like roster.

No it's not. Taj is just a rotation player. I've been a big Noah defender on here but he's not in Bynum's class. It's not Bynum's first good year, but it is his first great year. He's the only other C in the league capable of dominating games at both ends. He's young. He has "franchise player" potential. Noah is just a good starting center. Borderline all star during the right year. Bynum can be "All Star starter for 5+ years" good. And the 2 1's would likely be in the late 20's unless you were offering Charlottes unprotected 2016 pick.

The Lakers just want Howard! Do they want to give up Bynum and Gasol...hell no...

Do I think they would at the last second...yes...

Then look to pick up some veteran that gets cut...

I am not going to say it makes them better this year...but Kobe and Howard gives you a chance in any game...

The point being the Lakers want a New Star! Kobe has 1 more year...and the Lakers are a star power team!

They are on the verge of losing LA to the Clip Show.

I agree they want a star. But Otis Smith is a terrible GM. I doubt he'll outfox Mitch. Mitch would be stupid to give up Gasol in the package. The Magic have much more to lose by not doing the deal than the Lakers do. No matter what the Lakers will still have a top 2 center next season. Orlando doesn't have that guarantee.

When healthy Bynum is the 2nd best center in the league. I would offer that and use the trade exception to take back Turks salary. Maybe even throw in a draft pick.

If the Lakers can hold onto Bynum in a deal like that it would be even greater.

What if the Lakers held on to everyone, and still got Dwight Howard? That would be the best!

Impossible. I would argue the Lakers biggest need is a PG.

The Lakers have basically fired their staff! They are going to make one huge push for Howard and if not, new staff of scouts, etc looking towards the future

Jim Buss is an idiot and his father must be going the way of George Steinbrenner. That would be the only thing that makes sense. The guy went out and hire arguably one of the 5 worst coaches in the game without talking to Kobe and traded Odom for used socks.

I like the Jim Buss is James Dolan 2.0 theory. It's pretty bad if even Magic is taking veiled shots.

No chance, in large part because the Hawks are in the same division with the Magic, the Southeast Division that also features the Heat. If the Magic are smart, they trade Dwight Howard to a Western Conference team. In my opinion, as much as he wants to go to New Jersey and eventually open the new arena being built in Brooklyn, Howard ends up in Dallas. A bold move by Mavericks' owner Mark Cuban? Yep.

I wonder what Orlando would think of:

Brook Lopez
MarShon Brooks
Mehmut Okur (To make the salaries match)
#1 Picks (They have their own, they also own Houston's.)

I thought Brook Lopez is injured yet again for New Jersey...Then again, while I think Dwight Howard and maybe Deron Williams end up in Dallas, Howard's first choice is still New Jersey/Brooklyn, as pathetic as that team is.

They would be insane to take that. Even you wouldn't offer a deal like that.

The Dallas situation is muddled. I can't imagine there's anybody on that team the Magic would want. Anybody who's anybody on the Mavs are old. So if Howard ends up in Dallas, he won't be doing so via trade. If he wants to sign with them in the summer, it's possible. But the Mavs don't appear to be in position to bring in BOTH Howard and Williams.
The Mavericks are saddled with the relatively large contracts of Marion and Haywood for at least the next couple of seasons.
Between Dirk, Marion and Haywood, and a couple other minor contracts, that's $40 million right there against next years cap.
It also means letting Jason Terry, Jason Kidd, Lamar Odom and Vince Carter all walk.
Not sure where the Mavs sit with their amnesty provision.

Pretty sure DB mentioned this before, but isn't the window to amnesty over ?
And KS, i was assuming the plan all along was to let Terry, Kidd Odom and Carter walk
what the hell do they care aobut Carter and the other 3 are getting old
i thought their whole plan was like Miami's, to clear enough space for 3 big deals- i.e. Dirk, Howard, Williams

after this year the only 2 big salaries they're on the hook for (other than Dirk) are Haywood and Marion. Team option on Odom, drop him like a bad habit

You can amnesty any player that you had under contract before the most recent CBA was signed. It cannot be a player that re-signed after the CBA, or a player you traded for after the signing of the CBA. And you can only amnesty a player in the off-season. This is available to teams until this CBA expires, and they can only use it one time.

OK thanks
I knew it couldn't be on a player signed after the CBA but wasn't clear on the other particulars

I thought teams could use the amnesty clause once under the terms of the new NBA Collective Bargaining Agreement...

As for Howard, if he doesn't want to come to Chicago or sign a long-term extension with the Lakers, it seems obvious to me that Dwight Howard finishes the season in Orlando and leaves the Magic empty-handed this summer, heads to Dallas or Brooklyn once the team relocates from Newark. The Magic are still asking for a King's Ransom for Dwight...

Well, if the Magic still want a King's Ransom for Howard, and if Dwight calls the shots in where he wants to play come the Trade Deadline, he's not going anywhere a week from now.

By the way, Mr. Howard will certainly be a topic of discussion when his Magic face the Bulls tomorrow night on TNT @ 7p.
