They've been talking WNBA hoops for the last 4 months, wouldn't you be fiending for a season too?

Hang in there Jb.

Did you see that part of the press conference where Stern was asked, "Are you guys at the absolute bottom threshold of where you're willing to go?" And he kind of paused, and said "I don't know", and you could just tell that they could indeed go lower.

They are incredibly close. I'm putting a deal by Tuesday at like 80%. In which case, we should still get about 65-70 games.

60 at the most...

But I hear ya... As long as it's not an entire season of wasted development... It just took a good 5 or 7 years before casual observers even cared again about professional hoops the last time this happened...

After such a resounding, astounding and outstanding season last year, this has been very disappointing. But many, many teams were indeed losing lots and lots of money. And even though it was all their fault in the first place, this still had to be done.

The timing is just horrendous. I would venture to say that last season, made more fans out of casual observers than any one season in the past 10 years had done.

But I'm pissed, and am trying to get a hold of David Stern as we speak. Seriously.

Tell him I said Fuck 'em. And his pig in a blanket addiction.

If owning an NBA is such a losing proposition, why don't these guys sell their teams?

It's a legit question though. The guys that own NBA franchises generally made their money doing something else. They're not a group of dummies. So if it was such a money pit, they never would have gotten involved. They've gotta be making money somewhere.

Interesting read. I still don't see how these franchises can actually lose money yet remain solvent. I haven't delved into the nuts and bolts of this lockout, but is it similar to the NFL where there's one set of books that they players get to see and another of how much they are really making?

Sort of. There's alot of people questioning how accurate the NBA's reported losses are.

I was just reading on ESPN, that Derek Fisher had to send out a letter saying he was loyal to his side, because some people are questioning Fisher's about his realtionship with Stern and Deputy Commish Adam SIlver.

I don't know when he a deal gets done, sounds like it's close, but if it takes 30 days after it's done to play, I just wonder if they will be playing by Christmas, there past Thanksgiving.

This thread needs Ike's Lockout thoughts. I saw he made an appearance yesterday/today on the board. What's your take, Ike?

A gut feeling? Mid-January. I'm not so sure the two sides are as close as what's been reported.

The owners need to totally win this thing. There is no reason to give in even a little bit. The players have everything to lose with 100% certainty of losing money. meanwhile 1/2 of the NBA teams lost money last season and are financially better off not playing. There is no sense of urgency on the part of the owners to get anything done. They just need to wait till the players cave (which they will) and get the deal that allows them to actually make money again.

With reports that there's a rift on the player's side, you just wonder if there will be basketball on Christmas this year.

ESPN was just showing a tweet from Glen Big Baby Davis, just take 51% and let's play basketball.

Reents, ABC Sports (ESPN on ABC) is scheduled to have 2 of the games on Christmas Day. I'm starting to think NBA Commissioner David Stern will be "The Grinch That Stole Christmas", not Jim Carrey in that movie or the voice of Boris Karloff in the classic 1965 cartoon TBS & TNT run every year around holiday time. In plain English, I don't think there's going to be 1 game played until January at the earliest.

That is not good for the players if that is the case, the owners have won.
