The Mavericks choked away that game last night. Missed 4 of 5 free throws with less than 30 seconds left and it went to overtime. New Orelans even nearly conceded the game near the end of regulation when they were hit with a Technical Foul on a bad offensive foul call made by the ref.

but wouldn't the flip side to that be you said they looked real good last night against houston but it took overtime to win. I still have doubts about their defense and artest. I dont know if they are better than the spurs, celtics, or magic

That's true, and you could say it took them OT to beat the Thunder too....I agree I have some issues with their defense too- Houston really should have won that game as they missed a ton of open shots. And that was Houston who doesn't really have a prime scorer, you have to think Magic and Celtics would be hitting those shots. But I have no doubt about their offense at all. I think they need to go to Bynum a lot more he has looked awesome so far

I still think they beat Celts or Magic (or Cavs) in the Finals

I don't really. It will come together. If you're constantly going to be worried about Artest going apeshit, i suppose that's a fair concern but if Phil & Kobe can't keep him in check, no one can. I have little doubt he'll be a good boy this year

I'd be more concerned with his age and propensity to hang out on the perimeter and jack up 3's. Which he did more and more with the Rockets last season, who do not appear to miss him a bit...

Yeah I agree CoF. I was talking about how he fits in basketball wise, not personality wise. I think he's matured enough basketball wise by now. Ariza was just a better fit all around IMO. Artest cant really guard perimeter-oriented players as well anymore.

I think the Lakers are right there with the Spurs, Magic, and Celtics. I just didnt think they were the best of the bunch before the season, and I havent seen anything to change my opinion now. I think there's a small chance Denver can join that conversation, but I'm not sold yet.

Hawks bounced back after losing what was really not much of a game to the Lakers and getting a quality road win against Portland. I've never been a huge fan of Crawford but i think he's going to be a very solid addition to their bench, obviously he came up huge last night with 27 and 7 ast. Last year that role belonged to Flip Murray who admittedly was not bad, had a few nice games for them but I really think the addition of Crawford and Joe Smith will pretty much cement that 4th spot for them.

What happened to Flip? I remember when he replaced an injured Ray Ray several years ago on Seattle to start the season he just lit up the entire league. I remember a young FavreFan thinking he was going to be a superstar.

you know what saddens me? The Nuggets letting Dante go. They miss his defense on shooting guards...
And this year's City's Favorite teams to catch so far:

1. Blazers
2. Thunda
3. Suns

Yeah but didn't Jones get like 4 years/$17 million from the Pacers or something close to that? That's absurd money when guys like Jones are fairly common. Although he did fit in with that team perfectly. I'm just happy they got the Birdman back.

FF, I think Murray is on the Bobcats. He's still around for sure. He's not a bad bench guy to have. But like I said I think Crawford is definitely an upgrade for them off the bench over Murray. Yeah Crawford jacks up a lot of shots and while he's been hot so far there's surely a cold stretch around the corner. But that's actually what the Hawks 2nd unit needs, is someone who can score so he fits in good.

i agree on the hawks. I actually am not positive the cavaliers are better than the hawks right now. Something just seems off with them. Has teague done anything yet?

Eh, not really. Just spot duty. Haven't really seen enough to get a good gauge on his abilities. But he pretty much is the backup PG, it's just that Crawford ends up handling the ball a lot anyway with the 2nd unit as you could imagine

Yeah I'm not sure about the Cavs either...Maybe they miss Delonte West, not sure. I mean Lebron aside, what really killed the Hawks in that series was their lack of size up front, Wallace and Illgauskas just dominated the boards. Horford and Smith are good rebounders but are a bit undersized. Should be an interesting game with the Bulls tonight, I agree something is a bit off, seems like a prime opportunity for the Bulls to steal a win

What do you guys think about this Nuggets team?

I've been switching back and forth between several games but I watched this Nuggets-Heat game for a few minutes and I actually saw like 3 possessions in a row where they played GOOD defense. Shocking. They really look good.

LeBron James is putting on a clinic in what's supposed to be his ONLY visit to Madison Square Garden this season. He's got 21 right now as the Cavaliers are up 65-47 in the 3rd period in New York...

Did a double take on the "Rip City" jerseys that Portland is sporting tonight. Wow, Popovich just laid into Richard Jefferson. I absolutely love when Hubie Brown is doing a game.

i still have my reservations but if melo can keep playing at this level they can beat any team in the league come playoff time. Certainly a contender from what it looks like. I thought the nets would be better than this. They look awful

I think the Brand move is an official failure. They look worlds better when he's not in the lineup, as last year's playoffs proved.

bagels your boys are taking it to denver in the first half. They do play well at home. Crawford is still playing well. Is he playing more disciplined than in the past?
