congrats on being the Atlanta Braves of the NBA
There's a lot of turnover in baseball and it's not possible for one player to exert as much influence on the outcome of a game or season as much as a player can in the NBA. That's why I think six straight Finals appearances is a significant accomplishment for LBJ; he's been the common denominator for all six.
Who has LeBron played that was any good in the playoffs in the East? Before he teamed up with Bosh and Wade the previous years he made 1 Finals appearance in 4 years. The last good team in the East before LeBron joined the Heat was the Celtics. The best three teams LeBron played in the East during his 6 year run were the Bulls, Celtics and Pacers. Bulls took them to 5 games in the first year with the Heat. Celtics lost to the Heat after blowing game 6 in Boston. Pacers took the Heat to 7 games and might have won the series if the Pacers hadn't lost one or two of those close games.
LeBron jumped from one super team to a second super team. Yes, he carried both teams at certain points, but there was only about 3 good playoff series with LeBron in the East in the last 6 years.
I'd agree the first few Miami teams were "super teams" but Wade dropped off near the end. I hardly think the current Cleveland team is super - I've personally got OKC, GS, and SA as deeper teams with more talent, though LBJ is the best individual player of the bunch.
Yes the East is weak but in the end six finals appearances is six finals appearances - it's dominant. While he hasn't won as much as MJ, his mere presence on a roster for a little more than half a decade has basically meant no other team in the East has a chance of making it to the finals, much like MJ and the rest of the East when he was in Chicago. There's a tendency to go back and pinpoint highly specific instances in the past (the opponents sucked, that player was injured, the AC was out in the stadium during game 6, etc.) but I personally don't care about that - he won in the end, and that's all that matters. Plus the sample size (six years) is too large to be complicated by those kinds of criticisms.
