I don't think it's a "what your team needs" thing for these reasons: Irving is s good passer, and a good defender for a rookie who shows promise on that end. Irving is a better passer/defender by far than Rubio is a scorer, and Rubio is ahead by far on passing and I would say a little bit defensively, but not a big gap. Irving pretty much has to grade out as the overall better player by now by most cumulative criteria though.
