Your truly awesome story makes me sick with nostalgia. One of my earliest memories of sports is watching the Cubs with my Dad over aerial television and seeing Bobby Murcer hit a grand slam. I asked my dad if a grand slam meant the ball went all the way out of the park and he kicked me down the stairs and showered me with Hamm's Draft from the little keg kan.

Well, in my & my grandfather's houses you'd have better to have had better beer than Hamm's. For us it was Country Club Malt Liquor or Mickey's...in the 'Big Mouth' bottles.

That's a tough way to follow pro sports. I can't imagine Reinsdorf cares more about the White Sox than I do. Or Paul Konerko either. And I don't expect them to. The Sox are my team. They're Frank Coztansa's team. The Cubs are IMU's team and RPB's team. These players and owners are just temporary. When it comes down to it, we root for laundry.

I (largely) haven't rooted for laundry in 20 years. Thank you McCaskey family & 1994 Chairman Jerry.

But, I still remember the jealousy that Halas had when the Sting won in '81. Or how much Veeck the neighborhood guy wanted to really win for all us neighborhood kids, or at least have us win. Hell, I was brought back  to enjoying pro sports in '05 remembering how often Reinsorf had mentioned how he'd trade all six Bulls rings for one Sox title. (True fact: In post Katrina New Orleans, I stole a walkman in large part so I could get White Sox updates. They had been in that massive slump up to that point  )

That having been said, my two remaining pro team allegiances are tenuous compared to back in the day(even if I still can't buy a paper the day after a Sox loss), but it's not tough at all. Well, maybe not. :alien:

  I've pretty much read both papers every day since I was about 13 years old. But there are days after a tough Sox loss when I won't buy them. Today might be one of those days.

You guys are taking me back to my newspaper days.

It was a fucking race to the machine when the Cubs won or a big sports thing happened.
