Good for him. I am excited about that. I did not want him to go to the Knicks. cannot stand the Knicks. I always liked Kerr and I like the GS team.

I hope it works out. I am still not sure what is so attractive about him as a coach, but maybe it will be a good pairing.

They wanted SVG because they know Kerr is a pipe dream for them.

I would be shocked if Kerr ends up anywhere but New York.

Well I'm shocked...

Phil better get Jud Buechler on the phone.

SVG is taking over both the president of basketball and coach jobs it seems. Looks like that was his driver. Horrible situation in Detroit but they have a lot of cap room. Stuckey and Villanueva come off the books to the tune of 17M. They have some young talent in Drummond and KCP. Brandon Jennings is cheap. Maybe they can make something out of the mess.

As for Kerr going to GS, that was the right move - his family is out west and the Knicks job is just not a good place to be. Crippled with the salary cap and dependent on melo's decision this off season - it just doesn't look like a great opportunity.

Detroit isn't going anywhere anytime soon, so why the hell would they hire a guy you typically hire to take you to the finals at this point? SVG has complete control of personnel also. So if they still suck 3-4 years from now he wont even get a chance to finish out his contract. It's 100% on him to rebuild that team, and he'll probably be granted a pass for the first couple years because of how shitty they are.

They're stuck with Josh Smith for the next 3 seasons. I never really understood why they even made that deal. They've got Greg Monroe and Drummond, who are two very good young inside players, and they also added Brandon Jennings. They should at least be a playoff team with that current crop. Tying up all that cap money with Josh Smith just didn't make any sense to me.

unfortunately i think at this point, you just have to accept Josh Smith for what he is , i don't think there's going to be any evolution of his game or that he's going to suddenly stop jacking up 3's. extremely frustrating as a fan, i can only imagine how frustrated his coaches must get , hence all those random benchings last year

I think he's gonna do poorly, but he might help the development of Drummond. I don't trust him with personnel decisions and that roster is already a total mess.

Lakers are rumored to be interested in Byron Scott or Mike Dunlevey. I thought they would try to hit a home run, but instead they are interviewing retreads? Mike Dunlevey has already coached the team, and hasn't had any success at the NBA level in nearly 15 years. How does this guy keep getting jobs?

Is it anymore of a risk than having Jason Kidd or Derek Fisher roll the practice balls out?

Scott or Dunlevey are not really risks, but the Lakers will know what they are getting. A mediocre coach, that will get them nowhere.

yeah I don't get the Dunleavy or Scott thing.

I would rather take my chances with a new guy like Fisher than go with a retread that has done nothing.

Agreed. I am confident Walt and just about anyone here could be just as effective as Vinny for a fraction of the cost.

I wouldn't take that job...with Love leaving....I think the NBA has a Great Lakes void ...T-wolves...Bucks..Pistons ...Cavs

Part-owner and President of Basketball Operations for the Minnesota Timberwolves Flip Saunders has hired Flip Saunders as the Timberwolves' new Head Coach.

I personally have no confidence in Flip Saunders being able to build a team that Flip Saunders is able to coach to any degree of success.

Better choice than Vinny, but Flip is the poster boy for NBA retread. No idea why he would want to hire himself for that job.

At least he's off ESPN now.

What other NBA championship coach is he going to get to coach in MN?

There's better guys out there:

George Karl, Lionel Hollins, or even Mike D'antoni would be an interesting fit with that roster.

Or why not bring in a young/unproven guy? Sam Cassell has been an assistant for a few years and has played in Minnesota for Flip. Maybe give him a chance?

Yeah, I had him confused with Rick Carlisle.

Kentucky head coach John Calipari, who signed a seven-year extension last week, discussed a seven-year, $60 million-plus deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to Yahoo Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski and Brett Dawson. The proposed arrangement would have made him the president and head coach, with him having final say over roster moves over general manager David Griffin.
Gilbert and Calipari had discussed a package in the range of $8 million-plus a year, sources said, and it wasn’t until midweek that Calipari finally rejected Cleveland and fully committed to his seven-year, $52 million extension at Kentucky.
There is a “strong belief” around Calipari that he would have wound up in Cleveland if Wildcats guards Andrew and Aaron Harrison had decided to turn pro, according to Yahoo Sports. The two sides had reportedly “gone deep” in negotiations.

After Carmelo opts-out, he's also going to be the best player on the roster.

Player/coach? I believe this deal was agreed to before the Thunder season was over. You could tell he was done by the way he hung around the court after they were eliminated and appeared to be fighting back tears.
