I wonder how much Jerry Buss, Micky Arrison, and Mark Cuban are losing so far.

The owners didn't guess wrong. They honestly seem fine with canceling the season. That's why it's on the owners though.

At least 1/3 of the owners would probably lose less money by not having a season. For the big markets, this will be painful, but others like Jordan are probably celebrating right now.

The thing about the owners is though that they'll likely make the money back over the next decade or two especially if the franchise value raises because of a more favorable salary structure.

Today on the radio I heard that NBA players had the highest average salary of all pro sports and yet they are going to war over what is pretty much a roll back of $500k per season or less for most of them.

Well like DB mentioned, the owners aren't even a unified side. I should have said Stern. I think it's fair to say based on his comments he thought the players would cave and he doesn't want a cancelled season.

Isn't it reasonable that they have the highest salary since they have the fewest roster spots and the most individual impact of the four major sports?

right, regardless of who is at fault, it taints his legacy big time if an entire season is canceled on his watch

It's reasonable but it also kinds of puts into perspective what exactly they are fighting for. Fighting over a percentage point when you already make more than anyone else may not make the most sense.

Deadspin had to retract a lot of that though when contacted about it by the league.

The owners aren't canceling a season if a majority of the teams weren't losing money.

I agree, which is why I agreed with you they are being stupid. But I can understand their frustration. They gave into almost every demand of the owners and didn't get one concession in return, only to have the owners end up dividid themselves and start asking for more. And the entire time Stern has sat back sounding like an arrogant jackass that hasn't forced the two sides to finish this off since they were apparently so close.

That's not true. For instance, the owners would love a non-guaranteed contract structure similar to the NFL.

Yeah and I'm sure they'd also love an 80% cut of the BRI and a $5 million team salary cap but we're talking about the main points of negotiation during this lockout. I'm pretty sure non-guaranteed contracts were never gonna happen.

Neither was anything but a 50-50 split of revenue. The owners still talk about 47-53.

I've been watching alot of NBA TV over the past week with all of the lockout excitement, and I've noticed one thing when watching NBA Gametime. Rick Kamela only has one voice, and that is yelling. He shouts everything he says. It's like Mully made it to cable TV.

It's hard not to argue. Before this whole lockout became a reality, KS, there was talk about Isiah Thomas getting back in the Knicks' front office.

After reading the Delonte West stuff, there's no way this lockout lasts much longer. 2 weeks tops.

KS... I am confident there will be no NBA season. Both sides are dumb. Stern looks like an obsessed girlfriend who got dumped. Im glad espn is scrambling, but sad my nba tv guys aren't giving me the inside knowledge I need to remain an elite nba fan.

A whole year of development lost...

An entire generation of potential unrealized...

More injuries and shitty basketball next year...
