The indefensible position.

It's pretty clear that a woman cannot compete with men in sports. Otherwise... there would be women in pro sports with men. but there's not. Why? BECAUSE THEY CAN'T COMPETE WITH MEN.

Why else would there be no women in pro leagues like the NHL, MLB, NBA and NFL? They'd sell tickets if they could compete and a team could have them on the roster.
But they can't. Which is why this whole thread is stupid as fuck.

Let's not act as if they wouldn't be discriminated against. David Stern admitted that was likely the reason Jeremy Lin wasn't drafted or given a shot. Let's face it a lot of men don't think women can do anything other than house work better than men. There are probably more men who hold this believe than there are men who are racists.

Edit: It's one thing that can unite men all around the world.

You show me a woman who can play basketball with men and I'll show you a woman signed to an NBA team who makes them money by introducing a new fanbase to the NBA.
Until you can find a woman who can actually play amongst me this conversation is stupid as fuck, because it's not possible yet.
Sorry. There isn't one. When there is one, she will be given a chance. Because she'll be worth her weight in gold.
It's not that they don't want a woman or won't give one a chance. It's that none can do it yet.

I showed you a video of Cappie Pondexter more than holding her own against Telfair (an NBA player). BTW we are having this debate because some people believe Brittney Griner can play in the NBA. This discussion isn't about some random woman off the street. It is stupid to assume a woman can't do it until one is given a chance. That may happen this year. You should watch.

None can match the production of a Vladimir Radmanović or Brian Scalabrine? There's a lot of space on NBA benches.

We're having this debate because "some people believe she can play in the NBA?" Really. Because there's enough people you could find who believe aliens contributed to the Egyptions building the pyramids too. Don't make it so do it? I say give her a chance. Just like everyone else here. And when she fails miserably, enough of the mysoginist accuations. Because it's not mysogeny, it's life. It's reality.

If a woman could do what they do they'd hire one. Because she'd sell tickets moreso than Brian Scalabrine.

It's not sexism that keeps them from competing. It's reality.

It can't be disputed that universally men have thought that women were inferior in all walks of life to men except when it came to doing house work. There was no evidence that they could UNTIL they were given a shot. Obviously those views have been proven incorrect even though most men don't want to admit it. I haven't argued that all women can play in the NBA. I believe in the next 10 years Griner or another woman will though. I think it's good for women and great for women sports. Imagine how many young girls will get involved if they see a woman having success. Right now playing sports is frowned upon by boys so most girls that want to be popular stay away.

This is probably your worst thought in the thread.

Yeah, being a jock in high school is a great way not to be popular.

This is 2013. We don't just think it; we KNOW that women are inferior in all walks of life.

Here you are moving the goal post too. I showed you a video. There is also one of a WNBA team beating men in a celebrity game. It's really laughable. I have had many good and bad sports thoughts over the years and this is probably the longest thread I've ever created. It's a thread that has united men from all walks of life to have very passionate opinions about someone they don't even know or haven't seen. Just the idea of what she may be able to do is all it took. Clearly men are threaten by the success of women in areas dominate or used to dominate.

For girls it's not. I went out with a member of Regular Reader's family in high school and she played softball and bowled. Most guys didn't look at her because of that even though she was more attractive than most of the girls that didn't want to break a nail. High school boys don't want a sweaty girl that can beat them in anything.

No. Men aren't threatened by the success of women. It's pretty damn obvious that if they were better then men at a position on a pro team they'd get the contract because A) they're BETTER and B) they'd be cheaper and C) they'd sell the tickets and D) they'd create fans but they can't fucking do it because that is real life.
Women can clearly compete with men in business, and in physics and in science and in hundreds of other ways but as of yet they can't compete with me in professional sports. Sorry nas. Just ain't happening.

Yeah. I did.
I guess Danica Patrick isn't popular at all is she? Or I guess Brandi Chastain only because famous because she took her shirt off right?
It's pretty obvious to all but the most dense. If owners could sell a popular product they would, and a female who plays against the men would be a hot commodity but there isn't one yet.
Did this Griner ever actually play on a mens team or is this all just wild crazy speculation?

David Stern disagrees with you. The Commissioner of the NBA believes a clearly talented Jeremy Lin WASN'T given a chance because he didn't fit the profile of your typical NBA player. I imagine a woman would have a tougher time than an Asian American.

Jeremy Lin ain't really all that great though. He's ok... nothing particularly special.
And I'm not sure what that has to do with the topic really.
Because he WAS given a chance. His hype GREATLY outshined his actual ability.
Once again, and I can't make this more clear. if a woman could make a team and be good she would because she's gonna sell tickets, jerseys, and fans. I'd be more than willing to say sure, give her a tryout. Hell give her a contract. Don't bother me none. But I just don't think it's very likely she'd have success.

Lame.

Hatred of women is a lot different than thinking that they'd have trouble competing against the best of the best men in the world at a particular sport.

No one here is hating on them. To say so is grasping desperately at straws.

It's all wild speclulation. We have a 100+ page thread about nothing more than speculation of mults. A 14 page thread about whether a woman could compete against the best of the best men in the planet at pro sports is hardly evidence in support of any theory.

Please stop with the discrimination bullshit. Grinder has a BETTER shot than any man of equal talent of playing in the NBA. She won't because she can't. Stop being such reactionaries.

Please let's not act like discrimination doesn't happen in the NBA. It may not happen to black PLAYERS but Lin and other non African American players would disagree with you about discrimination. Even David Stern would. I can see how you would believe that but I don't agree. If she was a 6'8" version of Cappie Pondexter it wouldn't even matter. They fear the backlash of cutting a woman. In some ways there is more to lose than there is to gain. Especially considering she doesn't have all world talent. That may be what it takes for one to get a real shot.

I've seen my fair share of Baylor's women's basketball games this season. Griner couldn't beat the worst NBA player on the worst NBA team one on one.

/thread.

Could the Women's National Champion beat the Mens D2 or D3 champion?

There is also one of a WNBA team beating men in a celebrity game.

Men in Celebrity game < NBA players.

 The Chicago Sky is a terrible WNBA team. I had to throw them in because you don't see a group of women face men.

Considering your history of basketball thoughts some people may now decide that Griner can have success.

None can match the production of a Vladimir Radmanović or Brian Scalabrine? There's a lot of space on NBA benches.

So being the 12th guy on an NBA team means your bad at basketball? Scalabrine could walk into any gym right now with a bunch rec league guys and he would piss on all of them.
