If they trade for Amare, will they have enough cap space to sign another FA like Joe Johnson?

I would prefer to have Bosh and Johnson.

How many years does Stoudemire have left on his deal?

Isnt he as good if not a better option than Bosh?

If they get him couldnt they still afford 1 free agent?

Rose
( )
Deng
Stoudemire
Noah

If Im Joe Johnson im all over that

Stoudemire has 1 year left on his deal. Bosh is clearly the better option...he's a few years younger and Stoudemire has had some pretty serious injuries. I guess they could get him and another FA depending on what they gave up- I'm assuming Phoenix would want some kind of expiring deals back and that would eat into their cap space.

Yeah the knee injuries and age make it Bosh. But their numbers are pretty similiar. Bosh is only 2 years younger as well.

Ive been a big Stoudemire guy since he got to the league. I think you make the deal. Getting Amare for sure > maybe getting Bosh.

Bosh is also clearly a better player. While he can get soft at times, he at least understands the basic concept of how to play defense. The numbers dont show how horrific Amare is defensively. If you add him to this team, we are basically a notch above Miami and below Atlanta/Orlando. It would guarantee us not being in the lottery, not being able to add another big name FA, and unless Rose turns into CP, not getting out of the second round of the playoffs.

Ok, Ill defer to you or Bagels thats why I asked.

I would make the deal if you could still add 1 FA.

I thought they were in position to sign 2 and with this trade they could still sign 1.

So does Amare make more than Bosh will? Or would signing Bosh also mean you couldnt sign another big FA?

Many people here keep saying they want Bosh and Joe, or 2 big name FA's. I dont understand it. To the best of my knowledge, there's no chance the Bulls will have the cap room to sign two max or near max players.

As mentioned before, I think Salmons has a player option for 5.5-6 mil for next year which he might very likely take, which would definitely affect their available space

Yeah he does. Im not sure if he's gonna take it or not. He can probably get close to the full MLE on the market I think. Maybe not though, considering the depth and talent of this FA class. Assuming he turns it down though, I still dont think the Bulls will have enough room to sign 2 top guys.

This is the NBA we are talking about here. I believe Salmons is going to opt out and some dumb team will overpay for his services.

Probably. But there are less stupid GM's than there was 3-4 years ago, and with the salary cap going down for a consecutive season, there will be less stupid contracts given than in the past I believe.

As long as Chris Wallace has a job, there is hope.

I was disappointed when McHale got canned, but then his replacement took 3 PG's in his inaugurual draft in the first round, and kept one of them. So... not sure the front office has improved in Minny.

Man so the NBA lost McHale, Isaih, and Elgin Baylor all in a very short period of time. Thats like the Mt Rushmore of bad Gms

Bagels I'm starting to think you are right about Memphis. Memphis/Phoenix/New Orleans/OK City/Houston are all vying for the 7-8 seed right now within a 1/2 game of eachother. I hope I'm not wrong about Houston. They seem to have kinda of flat lined the last month or so. Should be a good race. Crazy to think the Grizz and Bobcats are dangerous teams right now.

of course I'm right. Houston does play tough, but I think in the end they just don't have the offensive firepower of a team like Memphis. Phoenix is slipping fast and may throw in the towel by trading Amare. OKC I think is just one year away. New Orleans can be scary

Just in January the Grizz have wins at Phoenix, at Portland, Utah, San Antonio, Phoenix, OKC and Orlando....those are some good teams there. They've also beaten Cleveland at home. They're going to make it, trust me

You always hate on the Mavs. I believe you predicted them to get swept in the first round of the playoffs last year, and didn't you predict them this year to completely miss the playoffs???

yes, I'm the yin to OKC's yang

if the playoffs started today they'd be playing the Spurs w/ home court, 3 vs. 6....I would take the Spurs in that series no question even without home court

Then you'd be losing some money my friend.

Other than Duncan and Blair, I don't see any other definitive matchup advantages with San Antonio's lineup. Who guards Dirk? Who will chase Barea and Terry around? And don't forget, SA has Richard Jefferson, who is the defensive equivalent to swiss cheese. Who does RJ guard? Marion...matchup problem. Howard...matchup problem. I don't see SA beating Dallas in a 7-game series.

You mean the same matchup as last year, when SA had the homecourt and the Mavs won 4-1?

See what I mean, you are a Mav hater and generally wrong.

Actually I'm generally right. I was right about the Warriors knocking them out in 07. I was right about the Hawks rise to prominence. I'll be right about the Grizzlies doing the same thing. Mavs are old news, sorry.

You're correct I don't like them and mostly i'm just having fun picking them to lose all the time, but in all seriousness I don't really like their team all that much

Ok you got the Hawks and Griz and Warriors right, but I can name that many you got wrong. So how does that make one "generally right"?  At best you are maybe 50-50.

I usually enjoy reading your NBA thoughts, and to your credit you do get some things right, but it just always amazes me how off you are normally on the Mavs. It is like your got Mav blinders in which you have to hate on them

There are not enough NBA guys around here for us to start having pissing matches with each other. We got to stick together.
