Dwight Howard wants to stay

Dwight Howard signed a waiver Thursday that keeps him under contract with the Orlando Magic through next season.

The waiver denies him the right to terminate his contract after this season. After going back and forth regarding his intentions, Howard said Wednesday that he would sign the waiver.

A source had told ESPN The Magazine's Ric Bucher that the New Jersey Nets had been told earlier Thursday that Howard would not be available in trade.
I don't get it but good for him. Hopefully he's still giving the Magic a legit shot at resigning him long term or this was a waste of time for both sides.

As long as you fail to recognize that my point all along has been that they not only forced a trade but also are able to hand pick the destination I'm done responding.

Keep ignoring my point that the Magic have known for years he was leaving and could have DEFINITELY gotten value for him.

The organization has very little power in the walk year. But they had options before.

Can he still sign and trade and get max money from Orlando in the process or was that rule changed?

The problem is: A team with Dwight Howard as their best player will never win a title.

So its either Being the MAN or a title. Cant have both.

I disagree. Howard is one of the five best players in the league and the most physically dominant player in the league(more than LeBron). He's never played with an All Star and his team has been near the top of the standings regardless. If he ever got some real help they could easily contend with Miami and Chicago.

I dont think he's a top 5 player. Borderline top 10 IMO.

He has had all stars as teammates. You mean he hasnt had a top 10 player?

I know thats the new expectation. "I need another superstar to win" but its not realistic.

Who do you think would be a guy that could win a title with Howard but not be better than Howard?

i don't think Howard + Deron + role players is all that much better than Orlando currently....Williams is certainly a step up from Jameer Nelson but Nelson isn't Andrew Gouldelocke or anything, he's solid.

Howard has been surrounded by great teams his entire career. If Nelson was healthy a few years ago Orlando would have won that series. He hasn't gotten better offensively and he's seems more interested in being Mickey Mouse than winning.

Deron Williams is way better than Nelson. Its not even close. Howard + Deron + role players would be significantly better than what Orlando has now. Its basically adding a top 4 PG to their roster, since all they have now is Howard + role players. I think Dwight and Deron equals Durant/Westbrook and is better than Paul/Griffin.

i'm not trying to argue that Nelson is better....clearly Williams is by a lot. but (and i'm assuming they would have moved Lopez in the deal if not then that would make a difference for sure) their remaining players would not have been nearly as good as the remainder of the Thunder/Clippers rosters

do you think a Howard/Williams/Kris Humphries (can't believe i'm saying that) core + Marshon Brooks and some other random players would be better than the Heat or Bulls ?

well, until Howard leaves....

seriously it looks like a majority of the their deals (including Howard) are up after next year....if they resigned Howard long term Hedo, Reddick, etc. would all be off the books, wouldn't they be able to get someone else decent then ?

Not immediately but they are contenders right away and likely the right coach and a player or two away. Dwight put up a 29-18 on the Bulls in a win and a few nights later a 24-25 on Miami in a win. And that was with a pretty shitty roster. He's capable of being the best player on the floor against either team. Deron would be able to close out the games while Dwight dominates all game long. I don't think it's really going out on a limb to say a team with those two as their foundation would be contenders.

I wouldn't give Ryan Andersen more than the MLE.

well it's all relative...of course they'd be 'contenders', they might be a step above where the Magic are right now but they would still be the 3rd best team in the East at best, which is the best the Magic can be now too. whole point going back to Howard going somewhere wanting to win and that there were other places he could have gone (Bulls for instance) that would have offered a better chance.

I think they'd be right there with the Bulls and Heat after a season or two to acquire the right role players. I don't think Orlando has the flexibility to improve the team in the next couple seasons

Van Gundy must want out. Why would you confirm this story while he is still on your team?

Yep. He's done.

Wonder how the Magic/Howard are going to spin this?

Man Howard really should have just opted out at the end of the year and got out of Orlando this whole situation is a mess. Need them to stay together long enough to beat the Heat in the 2nd round.

Scored 8 points and celebrated a Knicks victory. I would suspend or bench him and force management to fire me. I have a feeling he's going to pass LeBron on my list of most disliked NBA players
